Another gem of advice from someone who has done selection and been medic on several, if someone is injured seriously you must help them and get a medevac.

Home Guard or something

Do we still have the home guard organisation, you know, it was set up some years ago to guard vital installations in uk.
There was an older age limit.
I'm 53 but i can still kick ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spring maybe the best time weatherwise,
summer is my favorite
don't forget you will be walking at night a lot so summer maybe best
But I don't think you understand winter conditions in the mountains, it's not like the high st in december, you can get temperatures of -15 degrees or more ...

The MOD compass is an expensive piece of kit, if they still issue it
If you lose it you gotta pay!
We used Silva compasses or something similar, they are cheap and accurate and easier to use .
Buy one, practice with it before ...

Selection, summer or winter?

A little tip , do selection in the summer, as in winter you will be using your muscles in cold conditions, the muscles and ligaments will injure more easily.
You will be fighting not just the selection itself but also cold, snow, ice.
Mountains in the winter suck!, unless you did selection in Kenya ...
