pre Iranian Embassy seige SAS

Post by ease springs »

It amuses me how everyone is now all crazy about SF, before 1982 few peope knew of its existence outside the army, I went on a course at RAMC in beige beret and blue stable belt and the major thought I was air-sea rescue.....Another time the orderly room at Duke of Yorks "B' block got a letter addressed to "Special Car Service" .
Now its flavor of the month
Most of joined cos we could do the sports we liked and got paid for it

There's a friend of mine who is a former RM sniper from the Aiden days who also joined the SAS and took part in the Iranian Embassy seige. He had a colleague who was also part of that team called Frank Collins. Frank wrote a book about his experiences in the SAS called Baptism Of Fire. Following his military career he actually became a priest. Yes I know, from one extreme to another. However, in between he was also a body guard. Sadly some years later Frank took his own life. Nobody knows why. I hoped to find the answers in his book, but I guess I can only summize.

Owner isn't just someone. He's an exceptional man with an exceptional professional reputation as a former RM sniper and for his operations in the SAS.

Frank Collins was a friend and colleague of his. I enjoyed his book it was quite a unique story.
