Couldn't agree more. I think the MOD are being a bit stone-age with this one, revision of rules needed me thinks.

I understand the reasoning behind it but I can't imagine in this day and age that it is a problem. They don't bin soldiers who fail SF selection do they? And SF soldiers get RTU'd all the time but they don't see the same problem here.

Sounds like the government throwing away yet more of my money to me!

A Cpl/Sgt is far more likely to be looking at a late entry commission (Senior Corps Commission as it now is I believe), not sure what the rulings on failing this are, though I imagine it's fairly rare given that it's mainly the leadership side of things. The better known Corps Commission is applied for mainly by Mnes and I imagine junior (and younger) Cpls. In essence you have to leave the Corps and rejoin as a YO (although you keep your lid and flashes). The logical reasoning behind not being able to RTU should you fail seems to be that having seen things from the dark side might make relations back among the lower ranks strained, and may cause problems with over-familiarity with officers. Or something.

Blokes picked for SD, (usually stripeys and above) dont do the YO's course they just go and sit an AIB, and if succsefull get made up.
