At this rate MFAT has no future... So take note.

I think one of the reasons people freely slag off other units is because there's no real come back for them. I've noticed on other sites that members who breech the rules of the site can be suspended for a given time, maybe that could work here?
ie; if someone has been warned by the mods about certain comments but continue to make them again they could be suspended for say a week or so.
Just an idea but it may make people think twice before they post.
This is a good a really good site and I for one wouldn't like it to end up like ARRSE, or similar forums, where a topic never gets pass the first two posts before turning into a full blown argument.
I think that the reason people are saying this now is that in the past week there's been a hell of a lot of this, before it was just the odd comment and most posters would slap the guy down for it but just lately instead of that everyone seems to be jumping in to support the idiotic comments and arguing back with those who try to put them straight. It's very strange the way things have just changed over night.

Disagree with that I think ARRSE is a brilliant website, most off the comebacks on that site are tong in cheek and very funny. ARRSE is a Army website and if anyone reading this as interest in the Army and havent been on arrse.co.uk I recommened you do. Nothing against Militaryforums because I like this site its just that ARRSE is better if your Army. Yes I agree with you it's a good site and can be VERY funny, but what I meant was nothing stays on topic long and topics do usually go off on a tangent. Where as this site is mainly for advice and so it won't be as useful in that respect if it goes down the same root. I never meant to come across as if I was slagging it off but I can see how you could think that.

Well no matter what your 'status' on this site, and i say status because some members are respected more than others on here, Artist is a fine example of this, we should all be working together. No matter who has stabbed at what - put it behind now and move on. Well done to you mfat_man for sticking the boot in and stamping down some authority.

At the end of the day it's your forum, the mods can only do so much and really if we have to mod too much what does that say about the users of the forum? That they can't have a civilised debate.... Not good is it.
Also if the mods get fed up and walk away this will leave the forum exposed to people that might want to exploit it for their own ends, not for the good of MFAT members.
WE ARE ALL MEMBERS OF THE FORUM - PLEASE DO YOUR BIT IF YOU SEE POSTERS STARTING TO CAUSE GRIEF AND REMIND THEM WHAT THIS SITE IS ABOUT - HELPING EACH OTHER.

Yeah i understand what you're saying, but my point was - Someone finally drawed the line and said it how it is. Thats why i put that in my little comment.mfat_man wrote:AJWell done to you mfat_man for sticking the boot in and stamping down some authority.

Getting back to your comments again and others (and this is gospel guys): What matters most is that we stand up for each other and work as a team, because thats worth alot more than all the negatives!
Thank you.

Definately right.foxtrotgolf wrote:Starting a row seems to come very easily, but I think part of that is because there is no way to tell the tone of a post, whereas if you're down the pub and someone says something a bit daft, you can just look at them, and they will say, sory that sounds a bit twatty, let me explain. That's not possible online.

Just an idea, but can member profiles be changed to add things such as service history etc, be it ex reg, TA, recruit, number of years served, served from ???? to ????, what service you were in, etc.
Wouldn't need to include information on specific unit you were/are with, just general information. You would then have the option of checking out a posters history to see if they have been there and done it, and not just posting some c**p they have read in a book.

Or you could ask posters to include a resaon for a particular piece of advice, and why it is being given, and what 'authority' it has behind it, ie service history, training, qualifications etc, e.g "i recommend you do this...., i have done this and seen it work, i was such and such, and did this..." - this kind of qualification of what is written might make things easier- of course there will be nobbers who pretend to have been and done things when giving advice but it is an idea
What really annoys me is this Leaping on the bandwaggon syndrome that happens far to often when some poor bugger makes a Boo Boo either in their post or their reaction to a post. The people who Leap are quite frankly nonenties in my book who really need to think about the consequences of not engaging their brains before hitting their keyboards.
We all makes mistakes! As the Dalek said leaping of the dustbin.
I've been guilty of this just recently mainly because of problems with my head and body. But I have since said sorry to the people I slagged off and hope they realise that I really meant it.
I would hate to think that young wannerbies have been following my lead recently just because I served in the Royal Marines and think that what I do and say is the correct approach. Because it is not. Basic politness was and indeed is the way any wannerbie or serving serviceman/woman should behave at all times on a site such as this.
Ok if a person strongly disagrees with some comment then let them PM the person who made the comment with no holds barred, but put it across a wee bit more politely on the thread (it works people, I've done it). Don't forget that kids read this forum as well and when I say kids I mean 10 year old lads and lasses or even younger.
As it is I bet there are quite a few young wannerbies who find this site whilst trawling the web and read it everyday who are desperate to find out the score ref joining the Navy/Marines/Army/Air Force but are to afraid to ask because some OWD FORUM SWEAT may give them grief.
Thats another thing that hacks me off truth be told. People who have been on here for what seems like forever but somehow don't make the Big Jump and join up slagging new members who really want to join up. If I get one more reply from some PRONG telling me that according to QR 123456 I'm wrong then bollox to the place! I'm gone.
As it is given time the site will sort itself out and once more we will be a bunch of nice people willing to listen, learn and give out advice when it's asked for will we not?

This forums is a really good site for information on UK forces. However, like mfat_man has been saying - it seems to provoke a lot of arguments between individuals from different units, the most recent being between some of the lads who've been out in Afghanistan. Mind you, a lot of this has been taking place on the sister site militaryforums.co.uk. I haven't personally read the arguments on this site, but if it is going on, then it needs to cease.
Every unit has good points and bad points, but if an individual is posting info on one, then he (or she) should be given correct info on it, instead of hearing "well, they're shit actually, they do nothing but stag on all the time etc." That just provokes responses from other members who perhaps served in that unit. That in itself is bad, and needs to be rooted out. This should be an unbiased source for people, not a place for slanging matches.

Along with "Help you opo" that is what this site/the mob are about!!
This forum is very valuable.
It must have helped loads of potential recruits for whatever service through training.
I have learned so much through this forum, and trained with a few people i met from here.
I am not going to get drawn into whats been said, but a few people on this forum have been snappy recently, which is a shame and seems out of character. (from their posts i have read.)
I hope MFAT has a long future. Lets pull together, we're a community.
