At this rate MFAT has no future... So take note.
LOOK I AM GETTING BLOODY FED UP WITH ALL THIS POINT SCORING AND SLAGGING OFF OF PEOPLE.
YOU NEED TO WORK TOGETHER IN A TEAM IN THE MILITARY AND YOU WILL AT VARIOUS STAGES HAVE TO WORK WITH OTHERS, INCLUDING THOSE FROM OTHER SERVICES.
IF YOU CAN'T DEAL WITH THAT, AND THE FACT THAT MFAT IS A TRI-SERVICES SITE, THEN GO AND STICK YOUR POSTS ELSEWHERE.
IF PEOPLE CAN NOT CONTROL THEMSELVES MFAT HAS NO FUTURE, THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE

I think a lot of people are getting fed up with this to be fair.
I think that individuals need to be told (in private if necessary) that a certain something they've said or a pattern of recent behaviour needs to be stopped.
The reason I think this is because a lot of people will read your post and think "yeah he's right, good job I'm not one of those people he's talking about." when perhaps they are one of those people you're referring to (me included obviously).
I know it can't be easy though, trying to keep your eyes on all corners of the forum. Must be something to do with potential Marines because we don't seem to have the same problems in the other areas of Mfat.

Listen guys and gals it's YOUR site. The mods will do what they can to control aggressive and unwanted posts but we are here for the same think, so we must help each other.
Today I have had to lock another thread because members can not have a debate without making silly comments - and this always seems to be about other units. I make the point again this is a tr-service site, we should work together, not against each other.
Your call guys.

My thoughts (as va/invaluable as they may be)
Personally, i don't think there is as big a problem as is potentially being made out to be. MFAT still easily fulfills its purpose - giving advice to potential military recruits (whatever the service). It can't be allowed to die.
I've learnt a great deal since coming here, and upon bumping into any person speaking of joining the services, i immediately refer them here to pick up advice and help them prepare. I just think its that good.
Now, i must be blind or ignorant because i honestly didnt realise there was much of a problem. As ali stated, people need to be spoken to because I for one don't know if something i've said has upset anyone or whatever. I obviously hope not. I see the post mfat is refering to, and think the comments made in it simply need to be ignored and not allowed to intervene with the forum as a whole.
As a whole MFAT is still the ace of spades in its field and you mods have built something that is unrivaled by others. Don't let a few words from people miles away behind a computer screen spoil what truly is a goldmine.

And the BIGGEST problem is unwanted comments about other units, really this is very upsetting and uncalled for. I guess we have all had bad experiences with different Regiments, Services but why bring it here? I know its the nature of the beast within the military but this is a site for training, and people are training for the same thing!!!

As stated above this site is an absolute goldmine and really should be kept as such, especially the RM section. I know I found it a massive help, even if it led me to decide that a career in the RM wasn't for me (no disrespect to any of you current/former/future RM's but it's not for everyone!) and that there are other options I hadn't considered. Even for the less-active sections the information is there, you just have to search for it.mfat_man wrote:42 VIEWS ON THIS POST WHAT DO OTHERS THINK WE NEED YOUR INPUT

As far as suggestions go -
1) Why not gather several of the members who catagorically do know what they're talking about together and hammer out an 'FAQ' type page? I know that one has appeared in the RM section (not sure how recently mind), so maybe add to that to not only cover the selection process?
2) Maybe redesign the front page? Not that it looks bad or anything, but make the search box very large, and right at the top of the page? Make it as obvious as possible with a note advising to look for your question there first? I know that piece of advice is repeated umpteen times daily, but maybe if it was the first thing you saw on the site?
3) This last thing is going to sound really sad, but when I was still at college I ended up involved in a 'peer mentorship' scheme. Would a similar thing here not work? Say give each wannabe (can't think of a better term, sorry!) the PM details of a member who has been/is 'in', so they can direct any specific/unusual questions there?
Just my $0.02 worth.

Its a disgrace that its got to the stage where the founder of MFAT is saying that the site has no future. As has been said in a previous post MFAT is a goldmine of information for anyone looking to join the armed services.
Unfortunately armchair warriors are not limited to this site and you will always have a rogue element who troll the forum making comments on subjects they no little about and making offensive remarks purely because they are protected by the anonymity of the internet.
Even so its amazing that people who have not even passed the basic entry tests for the Royal Marines feel they can pass comment on other services, often to men and women who have actually served there time and made the grade many times over. Its a very sorry state of affairs.
If you have been party to this then you should be man enough to post an apology.

I tend to agree with you xcj. I don't think it's as bad as people are making out. The talk about training is just that, talk about training. There are always new people coming on here and asking questions that have been asked before. At the end of the day, theres only so much that can be talked about in the RM section, so it's ineveitable some things are going to get asked a number of times, albeit maybe 200 times if it's about press upsxcj wrote:My thoughts (as va/invaluable as they may be)

When you are hoping to join the forces, all number of bone questions pop into you're head, it's what you're thinking about all the time when training (am I doing these press ups with correct form? am I doing enough pull ups in a week? How many times a week should I be running? How far should I be running? Whats the best way to improve my press ups? Are the press ups on PRMC to a beep? Can I keep a dog when I'm in the marines?

I like to log into MFAT, go to the RM section and see lots of orange icons where people have been discussing things, and I can chat about how to improve press ups, or sit ups, or my running, or share circuit training methods with other people. It wouldn't be much of a forum if people couldn't discuss how to train. Even if people disagree, I like to see some debate, and then see people try to prove what they're saying, or disprove what others say. It's all healthy debate.
On a different note, the thing about people knocking other armed forces units. I can definately see why people are going to get annoyed at it. People choose different military careers for different reasons. I did well at school, and I wanted to join the intelligence coprs of the army, but deep down I think in the future I would regret it, and theres nothing worse than regretting doing something in your life and not having done it when you had the chance. So I'm training for PRMC to hopefully one day be a marine, but I wouldn't knock the army, or the raf, or any sailors. Obviously, once you're in you're going to be dishing out plenty of banter whichever unit you join. If I was a serving army or raf member, I wouldn't like someone who wanted to be part of the military take the mickey out of me, and making out the unit he wants to join is better than the one i was in. I'm not part of the forces, so I don't find it offensive personally.
People are getting a bit touchy on here recently, just because someone says what you've posted is
"absolute rubbish", doesn't mean they're being offensive or trying to start an argument. Take it on the chin people and chill out.
