i have finally given up!
i spoke to cranwell this week - there is no way on this earth that i will start iot before april as an int officer (decision to be made in october) so fine, i'm going travelling for 3 months in january. finally, something good to come out of cranwell. i'm going to australia, new zealand, fiji and the states. and i'm going to have fun! hopefully, this will also mean i will start iot in april with a tan.
generally feeling much happier about the situation now, especially with the illusion that i'm back in control of my life (please don't ruin this for me!)
just thought i'd share that with you all - off to book my flights on sunday!!
:banghead: no more!!
:yeah: happy, party vikki instead

Heard anymore news ???????????

Post by 2nd time round »

Hi everyone,

MG, have you still not heard yet !, at least Vikki and I can try and go about our normal lives now for the next two months. I think you are spot on with your assessment of keeping you hanging on until they have got any 'no' answers back so that you can fill the slot.

The only information I have been able to gleem is that there were no places left for my branch choices (2) for this current financial year and that apparently is why I and Vikki have been put through to October's sift as it will put us in next year's recruiting and an IOT start date of June(ish). At last, some places to fight for so it would seem !.

Let us know how you get on MG, as I know that it must be hell for you hanging around waiting.

Vikki, go and enjoy the trip and lets hope that we both get positive news this October !.

Well guys - as I was watching the DAmbusters on DVD before work today a large envelope dropped through my door.

I'm in! provisonally that is - subjct to medical/security clearance.

I'm a bit worried about the medical form - I had a few problems in the past but nothing life threatening and have not been to the doctor for ages.
What's the criteria for the final medical - does anyone know?

Also, got my performance back from OASC - they absolutely slated me! I scored 18 but got marked down to 17after final assessment - how is that in matrix terms?

SERE course starts Feb 3rd

Still got my fingers crossed as only provisional :-?

Congrats!
Have you got the notes from OASC? I got 19 as my final assessment which is 3 B-, but the Board President marked it up to 3 B.
I'd quite like to compare notes on the marking, cos i haven't got a clue how they work out the grades, or what they're out of.

Don't worry about the medical, or security clearance, it's not scary, just a lot of waiting about again!
You'll be fine.
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

At last! Well done mate! No ideas about final medical, my OASC grade was 20.

Good luck for the SERE course! :D

News at last !

Post by 2nd time round »

Well done MG,

That wait was well worth it and you got the right answer in the end !!.

Security clearance must be due to your branch choice as you need enhanced clearance same as intelligence and provost officers. They'll be looking into every aspect of your background so I hope you've been a good boy !. As for medical, that is a probe around your doctors notes so as long as you've been honest on your application form it should be a mere formality. Good luck with the SERE course and keep us posted with your progress.

Good luck to you too Hyper for your course, hope your well fit by now and ready to take on those olympic runners !.

Guys i've just read this thread about you lot waiting for your responses and being messed around by the RAF.

I did 2 OASC pilot selections. The first time round i failed the aptitude tests. So fair enough.

The second time round i passed the selection stages and then in my final interview got told that over the 3 days the felt i'd lacked "sense of Occasion" and therefore felt that i needed to show my commitment by waiting 2 years before doing the selection again if thats what i still wanted.

So to be honest i thought "f@#k that" thought about what i really wanted to do...and then joined the Marines as an Officer passing all the selection and scoring highly.

So just to let you know theres another one who felt let down by the holiday brochure!

My advice...join the marines or the navy, you'll get looked after much better!!

Will
Hurry up 8th December....I think i'm gonna Pass Out!!

Hi guys

apologies for my absense, been rather busy lately and also giving a rather large amount of thought as to what my next move should be.

MG, well done mate, roll on next feb!!!

Icklecathy, well done on getting through mate, best of luck in your new job in London.

2ndtimeround and vicky, good luck guys, fingers crossed!!!

Hyperlithe, you must be counting the days now!!!!

Anyway, jsut to keep you all updated, I've been offered a place at university, which it looks like I'll take. My thinking is that I'll re-apply whilst at university, and if things still don't go my way, at least I'll have a degree at the end of it.

I've also started considering the other services, since I was going for Regt, it'd be pretty narrow-minded to not even consider the Army, though RAF Regt would and still is my first choice.

Its been interesting reading peoples grades that they received from OASC. I initially had 19, though the board president knocked 2 marks off, leaving me on 17.

On that same page it has a box for overall OASC performance under officer. I received 'acceptable', though I'm just wondering what the rest of you guys received?

Hope you're all well

Hows things ???????

Post by 2nd time round »

Hi All,

Have been away on holiday so not been here for a while, MG all they do is look thoroughly into your background to make sure you are squeeky clean and I mean squeeky clean !.

Good to hear things are going well for you bc, I am about to start a years teacher training so if things work out well in October I can go straight in next June and be a qualified teacher as well !.

What is the RAF like, I have just got my copy of Professional Engineering Magazine and what is in the recruitment pages ?, engineering officer vacancies !!!!!!!!!!. I see this as a positive thing as it means they will have some places for next year which is what Octobers sift is about (I Hope !).

Bet you cant wait to get started Hyper, I know I wouldnt.
Keep trying & don't fall at the first hurdle !

Eek! Less than a month to go now, really getting scary.
11 shifts left to work, home in less than three weeks, off to Halton in less than 4.
Small gathering at my place on the 18th, big black-tie do with work on the 19th which is gonna be taken over as a leaving do, as staff from all three hotels I've worked in will be there.
