All those shortlisted!

Post by MG »

Has anyone heard anything yet? My letter said that decisions would be made the end of July and that I would be contacted in writing.

Nothing as yet!

Anyone got any good news?

News at last !

Post by 2nd time round »

Hi,

Looks like I tempted fate earlier because I got my dreaded letter today and it was not good news  . Basically I didnt get in this time BUT, they are putting me forward next time for the October sift !. So all is not lost yet !!!!!!. Anyone get any positive news ??????????.

Am disapointed but, I am still in with a chance. Can anyone tell me what the process from hereon in is nowadays as my AFCO are a bit baffled that I have been put forward for sifting again. I also phoned OASC and they were also very vague.

Can anyone out there help me out with some unanswered questions ? :

1 - How many sifts can you go through before being booted. i.e. are you kept on file indefinitely.

2 - If you dont get through the set number of sifts (if there is such a thing), do you get a chance to come back say in six months in order to improve your score.

Finally, a bit of information I havent found anywhere but would like to share for those who like me didnt know this. All direct entrants are put through to the competition phase, only those with specialisations such as nurses, doctors and Lawyers get a yes straight away. This was news to me !.

Here we go again !, wait and wait some more !!!!!!!.

I think it's ridiculous. Talk about indecisive. Do the RAF not realise they are messing up people's lives ?? How long can they realistically expect you to wait for to show you are committed??

I'm sick of them

I'm applying for legal officer and have been shortlisted - what does that mean?

I contacted OASC today - they have said that they are still waiting for people to go through the selection process and "hopefully" I will be contacted by the end of August :-?

Getting a 'YES'

Post by 2nd time round »

Hi MG,

Just goes to show you that the information you receive is never right !, I think it is because things must be changing daily. I go told the info about 'professionals' by me AFCO who unfortunately havent been able to tell me much, probably because they dont know either.

It would be nice to have some closure on the issue one way or another to be honest as there is a hell of a lot of messing about !. The other girls I am in contact with havent heard anything yet so looks like I'll just have to sit and wait until October now.

The wait goes on and on and on.

Does that make me a specialist then?
Cos I got a yes in nine days...

Yes in 9 days

Post by 2nd time round »

Hi Hyper,

It appears that no one in the RAF can give a straight answer at the moment, not surprising with what is going on. You get told so much and it appears a lot of it is wrong, not only was the specialist info wrong but I was told by my AFCO that when I attended OASC I would not be asked about my previous attempt to get in. Lo and behold, in my interview the two officers quizzed me on the very subject for a few minutes !.

I spoke to an ex RAF officer today through my gliding club contacts and he said that my situation is typical RAF. They just leave you hanging on and dont care about individual cases as long as they get the numbers they need. He also said to bear this scenario in mind when being posted as they have quotas to fill and you may not get where you would like on your 'dream' sheet. He said it's not called a 'dream' sheet for nothing !.

By the way Hyper, are you male or female ?.

Hey everyone,

Well it seems wearing a skirt for the 4 days did the trick and I was offered a place this morning......unfortunately not for any of my chosen 3 branches....Fighter Control!

I have no intention of being an FC for the next 16 yrs, and was already offering myself for more jobs that I really wanted to, so i'm turning the offer down and taking the job in London.

I will keep an eye on this board to see how 2nd time round and Vikki get on, and i'll be interested to see how the recruitment situation pans out.

Well, looks like everyone is starting to hear now - is there anyone else still shortlisted on this forum? Best of luck Icklecathy for your new job - btw how come you got the FC job outside your chosen ones?

The longer the wait the more I sense bad news is around the corner!

I have no idea - I guess they just didn't have the places in the other branches so tried to get me into something which they find very hard to recruit!

I'm happy with the outcome - I know I was good enough and that's been proven now, and I can get on with my life! :D

Just had a horrible thought last night - could they be holding out until the end of August to let me know as they have already offered places and I am on a reserve list if those places are not taken up?

This may tie in with that fact that the lady at Cranwell told me that there was others still going through the application process.

The suspense is killing me! :-?
