I spent years training to work as a technician in an engineering branch only to have my service characterised in the mind of civvies (and therefore those that interview us for jobs when we leave) as this sort of crap.

Is the MOD actually helping make this?
Calm down, calm down....It's only TV, I don't think I have ever met an employer that thought that is what the Army is about....

Besides that is exactly what the first 4 weeks are like, and it works 8)

But the sad thing is Maroon that many civilians and many employers have no real knowledge of the modern military apart form the rubbish they see on tv, or what their Grandfathers told them about 1950's national service. This does not help educate them, and I feel it devalues the real service put in today by the men and women who do it for reasons greater than to appear on tv for a few weeks to act the lad to impress their mates.

I realise that this idea has been covered on the earlier threads regarding the Trench, SAS are you tough enough etc, but does anyone really think this sort of thing is good for the military? I dont.

If producers want to make TV about people going through military training then why not use real Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines, instead of giving the public the impression that a bunch of tosser neds have achieved the same in a 4 week period.

As for them being all piss and vinegar when in large groups, but a bunch of whining toads alone, I see this alot at work, so the show does have less interest for me.

Lets have a new show called "in the back of the landrover" I guarantee if its that sort of reaction you like you will love it.

I’m kind of with you there, Del.

I really did enjoy the program, and I am looking forward to next week’s episode. I’m very interested to see the conclusion, and to see if any of the ‘recruits’ change their way of life as a result.

But, the program is completely for entertainment value rather than to give a realistic account of 1950’s training. It is sort of making a mockery of the military.

It is entertaining to watch, especially when these self-proclaimed hard men are reduced to snivelling wrecks crying for their ‘right arm’, but will the general public distinguish between what is entertainment and what is the truth? Or will it just re-enforce the opinion some have on the military being full of loutish b*st*rds….

It was only the first episode, so it’s hard to judge what will happen, I shall reserve further judgement til then!

Is anybody else hoping that when that prat Luke’s twin brother arrives, he is put in the other section? Or am I just being mean

Point taken DelD, I have to agree it is a ratings thing and the it has no reflection on the modern military, I suppose because I'm ex Mob I assume that everyone see's it for what it is.......Entertainment!!

I also agree with English Rose, I want the 'Right arm' to turn up and see him put in the opposite section and see wjhat excuse for NOT letting 'his fist do the talking' he comes up with this week!!!

I pissed myself when I saw the chap run across the grass and one of the corporals ran and grabbed him. The recruit was so frightened that he was still running when the guy grabbed onto him and he then dragged the corporal about 10 ft.

I started a posting about this under Army general discussion. Sorry, I didn't see that this one was here first. That cocky c*nt brown told a story about how him and his brother beat up a passer-by. That shows what they're like, it takes 2 of the tw*ts to do 1 person. And he was probably younger than them. Growing up on a council estate I've met Brown and his twin a hundred times before. They're not worthy of licking real soldiers like nayoukas and murray's boots clean.

He'll be hard to break because if he gets shouted at too much, he'll run home to mummy.

Aye, those ammo boots aint fitted with Ferrodos you know, . on a more serious point the programme that had the lads doing what the D-Day vets did was a lot more poiniant(sp) and showed that not all the "yoof" of today a re scumbag slime balls

I just watched the first episode, and thought it was good and funny. That bloke called Brown, I can see him being the center of intention from now on. :o :D

I wouldn't call these Bad Lads, more like Naughty Lads, I mean you got a nude skateboarder, and a bloke who pretends he is disabled to rob razor blades, and skin products....... what a w@#k

I can't wait to see what the rest of these Bad Lads have done. :)

The D-day raw recruits programme was better. It did serve a purpose, it learnt people a bit about what the old lads went through who took part. That old show "soldiers to be" was good as well, as it was real recruits in actual training, not just muppets trying to get on TV
