Well i joined September 87 & to be honest Raleigh was a Blast not very hard on fitness but you were beasted for the slightest things.
Then i think the year after they used to give you Gucci Hi Tech Trainers to do all your running in ours were boots.

I went to HMS What ever its called a few weeks ago, and have to say its like a holiday camp not a training establishment. I thought it was really quite ammusing. Maded me glad in fact that i decided to join a real force.

Nobody will look down on you for whatever Quals you have or don't have the modern RN though you don't need qualifications for most branches they would not hurt you to have.
As for anything to do with the Army the Navy has it's own manning requirements & could not give a hoot about the Army.

HMS Courageous used to be in 4 Wharf in the Sub Refit Complex i know it's a veg but even though it is on shore supply they have to still gas the batterys.
Shite boats by the way the old V&C Class .
To be honest though i would not go on any of the old ones unles you wish to look like the ready brek ...

Yes you can smoke on Subs in the Mess not at Scran times though (unless you ask the guys that are in and they all say yes) or when you are on the surface ask the OOW Officer of the Watch if you can go on top of the conning tower for a Smoke & a breath of fresh air
