As well as the flying units, there are some Int people who do 'interesting work' Someone has mention the close protection untis of the RAFP. There is talk of the RAF Regt taking over responsibility for dedicated CSAR duties which would equate to an SF (with selection).

In addition, RAF personnel can apply for Special Duties (14 Int etc).

for the record, Raf regt personell are the only RAF guys allowed to apply for special forces, be it SAS, SBS, the det, or pathfinder platoon.

The RAF police do not have a close protection unit, that is and has for a while been down to the RAF regt.

The RAF regt already have combat search and rescue trained personnel, I belive they get attached to helicopter squadrons for deployments.

The RAF dont have a special forces ground element as such, they have the RAF regt, a fighting elite on a par with the paras or the marines. thats whya Regt gunner is just as likly to get a shot at sf selection as a para or marine.

I find that your narrative sounds very true. But - how do you know all this?
Can you give us some indication of your expertise?
Anybody on this site can make up anything and promote it as fact.
Is that what you are doing? Or do you have personal experience.?
You do sound genuine!

Hi all, I'm prepairing to join the RAF regement. Any of the stuff I posted can be found on a Copy of the RAFs order of battle. Also the RAF careers service told me the Regt are the only guys who can apply to serve on as troopers or officers in the SAS. However its well known that any support type person (Armorer, admin, even chef) attached to an elite unit, has to do there bregade level selection. For example the AGJ bird attached to 29 comando battery had to do the all arms commando course. And thus an RAF armorer who managed to wangel a posting to 22 SAS would have to go through SAS selection just like the guys with that signels squadron attached to 22 SAS. And also to add credibility to my storys about The SF flyboys.

the signals squadron attached to 22 is 264 sigs squadron.

they dont have to do selection, they do however have to pass SF test week and as i understand their own continuation phase.

i doubt very much an armourer would have to do selection to work as an armourer. being posted to hereford for a role is not the same as actually being in the regiment.

Just to clear up all the duff gen being plastered on this topic. Anyone in RAF, Navy or Army can apply for SAS selection, whether they are a RAF Reg gunner, a technician or a fcuking admin bod - as long as they have served for 3 years min. This also goes for 14 int and associated duties. Pathfinders are also recruiting from every bottle washing unit as well, because of their serious lack of manpower. SAS are well short of guys, and a friend of mine (an RAF Technician) is currently undertaking selection. The signals guys attached to the SAS DO NOT do selection, and thus DO NOT get badged as SAS troopers, but they do do their own 'selection' course, which is undoubtably tough going. As far as RAF Reg are concerned, they are with out a doubt good soldiers, but comparing them to Paras/marines is p1ssing me off. The roles are completely different (defensive and offensive). Gnrgreencheese or whatever you are called, stop putting shitey info on here which you were told by the dest jockey at the careers office. If and when you get into RAF, and eat your way through a kilo of ice cream a night, then come back with some useful gen.

i tend to agree with the above post

is it a "net" thing

quote bollocks when 1. your still a civvy
2. then spout all sorta facts [and fiction]
3. "YOURE STILL A F*****G" CIVVY

my advice is get past the recruitment process
get the mudguard, dagger green or red beret or whatever

then and only then come on a military board and quote facts

until then "WIND YER NECK IN "

i hope this clears matters up :D

stever, MRB!

You dont know me, yes Im still a civvy! But also you dont know the people I know. I could probably start a football team with the people I know in all sorts of places in the forces! I mite be a civvy but my ear has been firmly to the ground for years!

Also, every bit of writing about them says that the RAF Regt are an elite!
they dont just sit and gaurd stuff!! They also have a remitt for securing forwared air heads and so forth! as a matter of fact during operation telec, there were RAF Regt guys detached to xx air assult primaraly with forwared air control parties! No x & x belive xx sqdns have been declared jungel warfare specialist units during last year!

Also x sqdn regularly jump with 16 air assult on exersise!

Maybe I was a little off mark on the deal with support personell and selection! however you have to admitt for all you know they could well have narrowed there search through the forces to guys from infitry units only since your day! maybee somthing to do with all the books and tv shows promoting xxas the place to be!

As for the signels guys, I didnt say they got badged, as with most elite units to serve in support you have to prove your up to it! case in point, that bird from the AGC attached to a military unit who had to do the all arms comando course, It was well pubicised, It took her two attempts bless her!

Oh and MRB! the names gnrgreenhill, be sure to write that down so you dont forget in future! 8)
