New Dress Uniforms

Post by Tab »

The RAF in these times of cut backs are spending £5 million on 40,000 new dress uniforms. They say the only difference between the old and new is the belt. Now they can close bases, cut aircraft, get rid of staff to save money, but at least they will look nice as they go through the gates for the last time

DEFENCE chiefs are spending £5million on 40,000 new dress uniforms for the RAF — virtually identical to those worn now.

The only real difference is a new belt around the waist. But the huge order comes as the Air Force loses 7,000 personnel and four squadrons under defence cuts.

One RAF man said: “In Iraq I was short of kit and had to buy my own. I’ve only worn my ‘number one’ uniform twice in three years.”

Sun military adviser Major General Ken Perkins said: “It’s senseless. The sharp end of the services are cut and millions wasted on things with no bearing on military efficiency.”

The MoD said the decision predated the defence cuts.

I prefer the old ones, I'm gonna look like a sack of spuds wearing a jacket with a belt round the middle.

No Tab, rather the opposite! But I don't look my best in jackets with belts, and what's more important, I don't see the point. The belt doesn't serve any useful purpose, does it?

Hyper, your No1 dress jacket is not the same as the above - the above is the male jacket - females jacket hasn't changed - so you may just stand a chance a still looking like a girl!!

I just seen today that Rathriland Army base is to close. That is about the third in so many months. When it all kicks off again Police and public are again left unprotected.

I do not understand the MOD logic. Looks before lives?

The RAF No1 dress is a waste of money , I only ever wore mine once a year on rememberance parade

Twice a couple of years if you count charges :(

This is basically a complete about turn. The airman's No.1 uniform was belted until around 1973 when it changed to the current belt-less design - why change back? In many ceremonial situations, the blue belt will be replaced with a white one in any case.

No.1s are worn less and less these days - why bother.

I'm not complaining, I get at least 3 new pairs just for joining!
:o
And then there's all the money I'll be saving, that I can then go and spend on posh frocks and hair products....
