Thoughts Today

Post by Whitey »

Well it's been 2 years now, looking back over that span what does everyone think, what questions are still unanswered, and are we better off today as far as safety.
Let them call me a rebel and I welcome it, I feel no concern from it; but I should suffer the misery of demons were I to make a whore of my soul. (Thomas Paine)

I dont think as nations we are safe. I personally feel safe as i live nowhere near places like London which they are predicting as target hotspots.

My thoughts have been with the souls of those murdered, the families of those lost and the terrible images seen on that day... god bless them.
Drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed...

Yeah same here Sticky. I don't think "WE" are safer, but I also don't live near anything important, so I don't feel threatened.

I watched some of the stuff on TV today, alot of names. I also remember our Rangers wearing flight wings of the pilots as they went into battle and putting flags from the trade center on former OBL realestate. But we need to get OBL.

We are never going to be immune from attacks of terror, all we can do is be more vigilant in order to minimize such attacks. Unfortunately this is a sign of the times.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of those who perished on that dreadful day.

Aye - Andy.

I think the result could be positive if America can hold it's nerve over the casulaties they are taking in Iraq. To many times in the past they have started some thing only to withdraw when they have started losing troops.
It got to a stage no matter what happened the terrorist knew that all would happen that America would chuck a handful of missiles in their direction then call it day. Most of the time these missiles would not hit any thing of note and the people who had committed the act against America
sat there feeling pretty smug, and getting more daring thinking that nothing would ever happen of note and if it did once they had killed a handful of American troops they would pack up and go home as American
politicians would crumble and the first sight of blood. Hopefully George Bush may have broken this circle failure, but I have noticed other politicians trying to get votes from the anti war lobby by saying that we should pull our troops outs. Like Vietnam the American Army did not lose the battle it was there politicians who lost it, then tried to shift the blame on to the Army.

Tab,
I agree with you entirely. This administration HAS to have the balls to keep going. Not really one for long posts so,just fyi certain democrat's here are suggesting we pull out.One is actually calling Hamas"Freedom Fighters"(not directly related I know)Unfortunately we are in the run up to a general election so we are likley to hear all kinds of sh#t.Some of us here understand the political realities, but are saddened when they are mis-represented in the press of other countries.CBC and BBC spring to mind.Nice to see no mindless Bush-bashing on here recently.Has Lew been on vacation?
Oh well,a major cat.5 hurricane is headed towards us right now,so I'll stop wittering on and go batten down. :o

Sp,
Thank you for your sentiments.
We all of us here are thankful to you across the the pond and all over the Planet for your thoughts and prayers.
That f@cking hurricane has me in the the cross hairs,I swear.I got through Hugo in 1989 in Antigua,Jeez, this one's shaping up to be just as bad,if not worse. The bugger's slowed down and deepened, with an ever tightening eye(center, before anyone brings chalfonts up again).
Thank you all again,on this difficult day.
Wholley.

Wholley…

As of late my attention has been drawn towards another one of America’s stupid men, David Blane, good luck in the hurricane, hope nothing you own gets smashed up, or people you know hurt...

My concern all along has been 'how long' will it go on. We've (The UK) been embroiled in Northern Ireland for over 30 years and whilst there seems hope on the horizon, there are plenty of people (or a few - that's all it takes) trying to make sure it goes on for another 30.

The situation in Iraq seems even more dire than N.I. I can well see groups of Sunnis carrying this on ad infinitum. It might change if Hussein is caught but who can say?

I am not optimistic. Bush's hope at the moment seems to be to get the UN involved to allow the US to scale down it's commitment. (Was it $84bn for the next year? How long will that scale of financial burden be tolerated by the American people? As long as it takes? I'm sceptical. :(
