FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE

Post by SYB »

DID you know?

In 1854 Florence Nightingale took 38 women to Turkey to nurse wounded and sick British soldiers in the Crimean War. This was the first time the government had allowed women to do this. Almost all modern nursing systems and techniques we know today can be traced back to her. She suffered from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) for the rest of her life. She became not only the first modern war nurse and nurse commander but its first documented psychological casualty.

Did YOU know, she was so famous they named a bird after her, and she used to sing regularly in Berkley Square London during WW II?

Not many people know that!

(Sorry Simon, it must be Monday morning and I need cheering up! :( )

Florence Nightingale

Apparently, she was buried with a 'guard of honour' and her coffin was carried by 6 Sergeants in uniform. My daughter who is a nurse, says she was a lesbian. Can anyone confirm or deny this ? Not that it makes any difference over time. Though fairly 'well read' I had never heard of this.

Lew, I don't think you can blame her for any of the deaths during WW1 as she died in 1910

Hmmmmm
Maybe what you hear doesn`t stand up to historical fact. But WTF, don`t let the facts get in the way of " What you heard"

Opinion versus reality, who gives a she-ite
I heard that Lew was a vacuous shite who`s opinions were worth f@#k-all, but, hey, what the flock would I know? What d`ya think
Are the band of FOSNI the hardest Band in the Fleet? Or are they all in it for the phots and the dosh :P
Find some one who gives a shite, and tell them.
Any good-looking Bandies with an input, like to walk me home.
This doesn`t mean you can put yer hand down me trollies

That was not an opinion of mine, just what I had heard through word of mouth...

I heard that Lew was a vacuous shite who`s opinions were worth f@#k-all, but, hey, what the flock would I know? What d`ya think
Harry opinions are like arseholes... some may think they are, but hey, whilst I’m here typing my "opinions" I’m not stealing radios from peoples cars ...

Happy New Year...

Not thinking of that fine woman Edith Cavell 1865-1915 who was shot by the Germans in WWI for helping British Soldiers escape?
