Med Discharged from Basic

Post by Spanish lady »

Hi,

Just after some info for a friend who's daughter has been diagnosed with a stress fracture to her hip caused during training. she is still in Basic and has been told that she is to be Medically discharged in the next couple of weeks. What she wants to know is treatment continued by the Army or is it back onto the on NHS? What about pay? Is her child entitled to anything other than being paid up to discharge. ie any leave entitlement. And finally will it happen as quickly as they say? The only info she has is from her daughter who is as you can imagine gutted and very upset.

One more thing, once the injury has healed how long before she can reapply to join? Assuming everything has healed as it should.

Ta!

I don't know about the other questions, but I got 2 stress fractures to my pelvis whilst in training - luckily mine weren't diagnosed until after I passed out from basic training with the RAF at Halton and went to Cranwell for Phase 2, but I was still out of training for a year whilst they healed, and the first 8 weeks of that on crutches. That was 8 years ago, and because I allowed it to heal properly and then got back into exercise gradually I have had no problems since. (Well only with my knees, but that's a different matter!) There was no actual treatment required, so that's a bit of a non-issue.
I would imagine if she's only in basic she won't have any leave entitlement...
The best person to get these questions answered is actually your friend's daughter. The training staff at her unit will be easily able to answer all of these questions for her if she just asks them.
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

Cheers thanks for your reply, hopefully it'll heal quickly without any intervention. I think it'll give her some reassurance that its not the end of the world and shell get another chance! I was lucky in all of my 24 years I didn't have any major injuries. However like you have ended up with 'delicate' knees!!! Cheers again.
