I work with a production company, Pulse Films, where we're currently working on a documentary film looking at scars and scarring. Firstly I want to clarify that this isn't a 999 style reconstruction show looking to exploit gory injuries and trivialise the experiences of those involved.
Instead, we're looking to explore the personal side of scars - the relationships people have with their scars, what they represent and what how they can come to symbolize a certain point in someone's life, or overcoming a great obstacle of difficulty. Visually, this will be a celebration of the scar - giving an opportunity for contributors to show off the scars they are proud of.
As part of this we'd really like to speak to a service man or woman who has gained scars during either recent or past conflicts. It doesn't matter if the scarring has faded now - and the injuries healed - we just want to know what the resulting marks on your body mean to you, and the story behind them.
It would be great to find some unusual, unexpected stories - from those of unexpected survival - perhaps the doctors said you'd never make it but you did - to those of perhaps even humorous circumstances surrounding the incident.
Of course, other than battle scars, we'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who might have a scar from another area of their life - whether an accident on holiday, surgery, or even a piece of body art. Anything goes really.
We'll be filming in around 2 or 3 weeks time in the UK.
Anyone interested should contact Arran@pulsefilms.co.uk with some info on their scar story, contact details and ideally a photograph of the scarring.
Any contributions will be much appreciated.
