Distance running

Post by HRH »

Yesterday did 11.5 miles in 2 hours

Quite slow but hope to improve time next sat

Outside edge of my foot is now painful when I walk on it, does anyone with knowledge know if I should be putting heat or cold on it, or neither

Well, 11 miles is a fair distance, so well done to you!!!

What you need to do with your foot, is keep it cold for a while, so that it doesn't swell, and elevate it for as long as you can. The idea is to keep blood away from the injured area. Have you walked on it today at all?

Try and avoid putting too much pressure on it today, and keep an ice pack on it for about 5 - 10 minutes every hour, while keeping it elevated.

Remember RICE : Rest, Ice, Comfortable support, Elevate!
Feel better, and again, well done on your run!!! :D

Erm, the C in RICE stands for Compression, well that's what I was always told!

Yeah, that's the old way ... they've changed it now to "Comfortable Support" ... I had to do my re-validation last weekend, and this is what they told us. Go figure :o

I have Selection in 2 weeks...currently running nearlye very night.

My best time 2 miles in just over 9 minutes...I'm joining the Army as a Musician...if I keep this time going or improve on that...will I pass the run?

Thanks, William

thanks guys, I was pretty shocked when I got back in just over 9 mins!

I know it's 1.5 miles for ADSC but around my block 5 times = 2 miles so I just do that...little extra doesn't hurt so hey!

I'll keep running & aim for 8.5 mins now! 2 weeks 2 go :D

Are you sure you did 2 miles in 9 minutes? that means you were running a constant 4 minute mile pace, which is very very hard.

How are you measuring your distance?

Think your distance is wrong young man :o :P

By the end of the 20th century, the record had been lowered to 3:43.13, by Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco in 1999.

I'm definately running 2 miles I know that for sure, I timed it on my watch which is accurate & also my Dad timed me on his stopwatch which we checked and works correctly etc & ignoring a couple of secs difference we got 9 mins 20 secs.

What's the best way to time then if what I'm doing isn't good...

If your doing 2 miles in 9.20 you should forget the Army and start looking towards the Olympics.

Its just not convincing for me. you might be doing your mile and a half in 9.20

I'm not calling you a lier mate, but i have to agree with MSI64, 2 miles in 9 minutes 20 seconds is some going. I've seen people do the 1.5 miler in sub 8 minutes and they were bloody going for it in some kind of fashion! I'd double check that distance, and if it's right, give team GB a call and get in there for 2012! :D
