4 Para Recruit Fitness Programme

Post by visaarn »

El Prez posted a program a while ago - 16 weeks of progressive development.

Fortnightly a tab was thrown in 4 miles up to 10.

What was not mentioned was any idea of weight carried for this.

Any ideas ?

Also I can no longer find the posting.

Note - the 2 mile best effort with 45lb bergen, boots and helmet is a bit of a beast - although each element is unpleasant in it's own way.

although im not an expert in this subject iv read lots of info and had advice from a TA pti on this sought of stuff. in terms of weight you have to assess that yourself i think mate depending on your fitness, as im sure youve heard in the past its always best to start off light (10-15lbs) then build it up over the weeks. the main priority being to avoid injury, bergan runs and tabs are quite affective at causing shin splints and buggering your knees if you pile on the lbs without regard for your health. just be cautious with weight, and build up tabbing speed into from marching into running over time, then you will build up a good foundation for tabs and hopefully the 2 miler. but as i say im no expert so best do your own research on this subject as well.

hope this answers your querie mate

Alright lads, i have a little knowledge of the 4 para fitness.
Firstly, at the moment forget tabbing. IF your serious about joining they will build you up gradually for tabbing. dont start early by yourself otherwise you wont know the basics like correct packing of your bergan and which straps to pull tight onto you. This may sound basic stuff but you will be amazed at what people do and do not know. You may think you know the right way but is it worth risking it and possibly injure yourself. just run run run. start off at a comfortable distance and work up to 5 miles. aim for 7.5 minute miles. if you can already do this at that speed go up to 6 miles but no more. personally i would try to increase speed rather than distance at the moment. interval training is the best by a long shot. also try and do some hill work. so much better than running flat. just for your information, bergen weight is 35 pounds. no more. they train with no less than this but start slow and then increase speed. but dont go tabbing yet. it aint worth it. just get running fit with loads of sit ups and press ups.
