P Company versus Age

Post by bennyblanco »

A bit late in the day, but have applied to Pre P Coy (34 now)...just wondering many older blokes attempt P Coy and how they tend to do! I know theres no subsitute for youth, when it comes to recovery/injurys but just interested in a few opinions/experiences of the older and balder!!
cheers in advance

I suppose if your fitness is really up there and you feel mentally good and ready and give it 110% whilst your there doing it you should be able to do it mate remeber age is just a number  I personally have no knowledge of it as I have not joined the millitary yet but the person I'd recommend getting the advice from for this subject is Sandy The Guvnor as he is a Para PTI and has taken recruits through p coy many times (I think) but all the best with it mate :D .

lol, I'm sure you'll do fine, if anything your probably more prepared for the time away compared to some of the younger recruits and that can be a factor that makes a few of them leave. best of luck.

Im 33 the bird is 21, I done P-company when I was 22-23ish. back then Im quite proud to say my fitness levels were awesome - I could really cut the mustard. I find now that its a lot tougher and recovery time is a lot slower. ALthough I can do the distance, the timings could be a lot better. I do half marathons everynow and then. This year Im aiming for a full marathon and hopefully try fitness wise to replicate the kind of standard I had when in. That 8.20 BFT time is long way off yet mind! I think from your point of view though, being in the forces - if you can make the timings then you make the timings. you may not be as light or agile as the young lot but that would counter balance itself in stamina, strength and the magical word - determination.
