Post by hoax »

Hey guys, will be doing my first tour with 2RRF this end of March, OP Herrick 10, however i heard that there will be a gym in the FOB, but is there any point in tryin to build muscle in afghan? im into bodybuilding, but even if the guys do gain muscle, how do they do it? it's not like you can take 3 month's supply of protein till R&R, can you? Any of the blokes got massive on ops?

Definetly breaking opsec and over there you wont want to be building muscle , It'll be too hot , you will struggle to get scran down you and you'll be too tired , by all means crack on with the phys but could imagine it been pretty counter-productive remember your body needs a calories surplus and unless your doing jack all day (which i very much doubt) your going to sruggle to keep your existing weight , never mind put it on, Just my thoughts on the matter :)

I'm not sure knowing what unit is going to be where really breaks opsec, it'll be common knowledge through the newspapers as soon as anything starts happening anyhow.

I've only passed briefly through Sangin; to be honest I doubt you'll be able to maintain a good enough diet to seriously build muscle there.

How is it ever 'too hot' to build muscle? Based at Bastion or KAF no problem. As long as you keep yourself properly hydrated the heat isn't an issue for phys (obviously becomes more of an issue when you're on the ground and water isn't so plentiful). Poor reasoning, but I agree dependent on your tempo of ops (especially if you're on foot for large parts of the day) you do have to be a bit careful about how much extra you do.

To be honest, on a summer tour in a FOB, you're probably better off keeping up your CV and just trying to maintain your weight.
