Can anyone help me

Post by commandocrazy »

Hi again guys this is my second post, if you read my first post you will know that I'm trying to lose weight (trying hard too) for the Marines. I was 18 stone now I'm 16 stone, so thats 2 stone gone. I know I'm still heavy but at least I'm 2 stone lighter.

The weight seems to be coming off everywhere else apart from my arms (bingo wings :( ) I'm gettting really p****d off with myself for not being able to get the weight off my arms. Does anyone know how I can do this such as lift heavy weights or light weights arm bike or not. My friend suggested the arm bike, but does it really work?? And what else is there I could do??

Thanks for reading hope you reply :D

Just keep training. Weight loss/fat burning means cardio excercise. I assume you are doing some running or similar? your body will lose mass from some places before others. Best bet is to just crack on and it will come off eventually.

Try prolonged sessions of masturbation  or just get on the rowing machine, pretty good all round cardio work out

It's a myth that exercising a specific body part will burn fat from that part (e.g. you have a fat arse so you do loads of work on your glutes to get rid of the fat there).
As has been said, you'll lose fat from some parts of your body quicker than others. The only way to get rid of your bingo wings is to keep grafting with the cardio. High-intensity weight lifting (using a weight close to your maximum, training to failure on each set and having minimal rests between sets) can help overall fat burn because it increases your heart rate and speeds up your metabolism.

As for exercise, some say that you burn comparatively more fat by doing low-intensity exercise like walking than you do from cardiovascular exercise like running. Essentially this is true, but you'd still be better off with the cardio because overall you burn more total calories:

e.g. 30 mins low-intensity exercise might burn 400 calories, of which 70% are fat. That means 280 calories of fat have been burned.

30 mins of high-intensity exercise might burn 900 calories, of which 40% are fat. That means 360 calories of fat have been burned.

These figures are just examples but they illustrate the point.

You don't say how long it's taken you to lose the 2 stone, but if it's within the last few months then you must be doing something right. However if you're 16 stone I'd stick to low-impact exercise like swimming and cycling until you get your weight down, as running at that kind of weight could put a lot of stress on your joints, and believe me, injured knees are a right f*cking pain in the arse as I'm finding out at the moment!

Thanks for the help guys. One last question when I go to the gym I run 10 mins on the treadmill and walk for 5 mins, if walking burns more fat should I just walk instead??

Thanks

Walking won't burn more fat than a tough run mate, not to discredit walking, but a intense run will always beat a walk for the same amount of time. (only walking I’d personally advise would be a much longer sessions, maybe outdoor if possible, over fells, fields etc)

Try running for as long as you can at a fairly high pace (not a sprint just as fast run) then stop and bang out 10-20 press ups get back up and run at the same pace all over again, each set you will run less and less distance. Once completely knackered jog back home with out stopping.

After a while this will get easy, once you can run 1.5-3 miles without stopping you can move on to tougher things.

Just an idea... also try an stay away from treadmills they aren't bad for fat loss etc but as for preparing for PRMC there’s nothing to beat the open road.

When you're in the gym, do an all over body resistance workout (endurance). Muscles burn calories and in the long run is better than cardio for burning fat. Cardio 3-5 times a week for 20+ mins with resistance training 2-3 times per week (12-15 reps to failure and 2-3 sets per exercise with the session lasting no more than an hour).
To be honest, weighing 18st it would prob be better if you did some other form of cardio (eg rower or bike) as the weight could cause probs with your legs and knees. Though you will eventually have to run to get better at running.
