Went for run

Post by designervision »

I went for a run today and after I came back, my knees ached whenever I walked.

This hasn't happened before. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sam.

Dont worry mate happens to me alot. I was told by a marathon runner that it is usually because your knees have had continuous high impact (e.g. running on pavement) for a long time. Mine usually stop aching in a hour or two.

Hi designervision,
You could have given us some more details....

Was it a longer run than usual?

Was the pace faster than you usually run?

What kind of terrain were you running on?

How often do you run?

When did you last run, and how far did you run then?

All these things and more could play a part.

Ok thanks..

The run was only 10 mins long. It was straight after I woke up in the morning and my knees did feel a little stiff at the start. I was running on pavement. I havent run that much recently but trying to get back into it. I last ran about a week ago and that was 5 km on a tread mill.

Thanks everyone! Anymore ideas from the information I just gave?

Sam.

Did you warm up/losen up the joints before the run? If you jumped out of bed, threw on some kit and went running then the problem could quite easily be a lack of streching and warming up after lying in bed for 8 hours.

Hi Mr_Kiwi... yeah I stretched before (perhaps not well enough). My knees did feel stiff before the run, so that could just be it. I'll give it another go tomorrow and hopefully do better!

Thanks,

Sam.

You cant 'strech' your knee joints as such, which is why you should do a warm up first, for instance running around lifting your knees as high as you can, or bringing your feet as far back as you can while jogging around, side stepping for a bit and so on.

Oh ok alright then. I live about .5 km from a park so tomorrow I will warm up on my way and do some laps with puch ups inbetween.

Slightly worried, but all good. Hopefully it is nothing major.
