Progressing through RT!!

Post by Macca »

Hi lads, I have't posted in here for a few weeks now because I'm going through RT but now I've got 3 weeks summer leave so I thought I'd offer any help and advice to anyone that needs it.

I've just completed week 7 wich was a fairly hard week as we had ex Marshal star and it wasn't the best of exercise simlply because i picked up a slight injury in my lower back but didn't fancy re-doing the exercise so just cracked on, apart from that it was good, but looking forward to doing the BST, Gym pass out and drill pass out within the first 2 weeks of returning after summer leave.

So far I'm enjoying training and still feel 100% certain that I've made the right decision. We have a very good training team not meaning that they are soft and hug us when we feel down :o  and the lads in the troop are awsome, obviously get the odd beefers and c*nts but most are sound.

Anyway if anyone wants any advise or any Q's to ask then fire away and i will tell you what I've experienced so far

cheers

Yeh I'd say thats true that the 1st 15 weeks isn't brilliant and it deffinantly seems to weed out the weak as the troop I'm in wich is 947 started off with 55 and we now have 45. I also beleive we will have a few more drop out within the first week when we return as you can just tell theres a few that clearly don't want to be there and ain't liking it. after week 15 is when all the gucci stuff happens so i can't wait to get to that stage :D .

I don't really get annoyed that often (apart from when certain people in the troop don't pull their wait), there are little things like being given 1 minute to get changed into different rigs then having 5mins to get scran down your neck and being constantly rushed about but you get used to it very quickly and you just have to have the right attitude about it all as there are alot of people who moan about stupid things when they know theres nothing they can do about it, so i stick with just dealing with it doing as I'm asked and getting it done asap and keep my mouth shut :) . theres many moments when you feel really worn down aswel but there isnt anything better than the feeling of getting into bed after a good hard days work where you feel good about putting in the effort.

in the first 2 weeks where you stay in the foundation block you in a room with aprox 60 lads but when you move out of there you saty in 6man rooms wich is so much better, life out of foundation is hoofin.

When you get out of the foundation block your aloud laptops out and a radio.

hope that helpsand if you have any more QW's then feel free to ask pal

well done for stickin at it so far mate. i might have met your troop on my PRMC 17-20 july in foundation.

first of all i despiratly need to know when summer leave starts and finnishes?

Can you go through your average day(from waking up - to going bed)?

Whats it actually like, are you enjoying yourself so far? missing home?

Are you geting paid yet(only because i heard it sometimes takes a while for you to start getting paid)?

(might sound cheesy) but i cant wait to get my rifle, whats it like to shoot one?

would highly appriciate it if you answered all my questions, cheers mate

Felias our working day normally finishes around 5-6pm so after that its just admin and rounds on the accom wich our troop have become quite quick on so we have about 2 hours to just chill at the end of the night wich is good, plus you can use them at the week end after a day ashore. though there is a computer room you can use so its up to you wehter you want to bring a laptop.

Marine101 summer leave started 10 August and we have to be back on camp on the 2nd September.

Our daily routines arn't the same everyday, we have 8 periods a day and each period is 45mins long. I will give you an example though:

Reveille- 5:30am-have a quick wash and iron your bed sheets

Scran-6:15am

Inspection-7:30am-just basically cleaning the accom making it spotless!!!!

drill-7:55am- this can varry between 3/4 or 5 periods depends on how well the troop perform. as soon as you get back to the accom you literally have 3/4mins to get a shower and ready for gym.

Gym session-12pm- either IMFS wich is strength training or IMFC wich is cardio training.

scran- eat the appropiate food not junk and eat plenty as you need the energy, even if your not hungry just eat. plus scran is coming out of your wages so best not let it go to waste.

weapons training-1:30pm- do not fall asleep in these lessons  again you have about 1/2mins to get changed back into normal training rig or you will just end up owing the training team time wich you don't want to be doing but it will happen so enjoy :D

lecture- could be a lecture on first aid/map reading/night nav/corps history or an exercise coming up and you could have a few lectures in a row, normally 3 or 4.

Gym swimming session-4pm

Yeh Im enjoying it so far mate, the first week or 2 i was having my moments where i was missing my girlfriend and was wondering if this is what i wanted but i was only 2 weeks into training when having that bad moment so i had to stick it out more than what i had and after the 3rd week i was comfortable and very happy and proud to be where i am and had settled down very nicely, I've gotten used to missing home and my missus you just have to deal with it and it eventually gets so much better.

Yeh I'm getting paid now aswel so thats all good and when you get your rifle in week 2 its a good feeling at the time but don't forget its your wepon so it needs looking after and constantly cleaning especially when out in the field so its extra work but its nothing to really worry about. I got to use it with live rounds for the first time over at 40 cdo Nortan Manor and its was awsome, obviosly abit more recoil in it than when using a blank round and alot louder and its great fun. Just think safety all the time and think of the drills you've been taught in weapons training and it will be a fun day.

feel free to ask me anything else bud

Yeh I've noticed a change mate, i pysically feel much fitter all round and mentally feel more focused and determined to crack on with any challenge that comes up also i can slowly feel myself thinking in more of a military way than civvy.

your first proper pay won't be special, will prob be around £450-£500 but after that it should be around £750-850 a month
