advice wanted

Post by Spetz »

Hey guys, I need some advice regarding my situation. I'm aware of a RMR London selection on 6th July? I really want to hop on to this date, and I plan to contact Bermondsey by this time next week, which is when my A Level exams are over, so I can focus on my application.

My worry is am I physically up to it? At the moment my average scores are:

press ups 45 <2mins
situps 62 <2mins
burpees 25 <1min
pull ups 8 - dead arm lifts

1.5 miles 12.22 (urban road)
2 miles 18.24 (urban road)

I am confident about my muscular endurance, and I know my runnings times are embarrassingly crap, but to be honest I have only being running for 2 weeks and my times are improving every session. In my opinion, I'm pretty certain I can get my 1.5miles down to 10mins and a 3 mile time of 21.45 within the next 2.5 weeks; but am I just kidding myself? Should I go for it just for the experience, and wait another slow 4 months for the selection in October to get it right.

Cheers, Spetz

Hi mate,

Was down at RMR London the wednesday just gone and we did an RMFA. I'd say about half the guys are close to maxing the scores. This was after a decent warm up, but not the bleep test.

Are your scores from fresh or after a run?

There were some new guys this week, but they were wanred they're gonna really have to pull their finger out in order to make selection. Not only physical but pestering your AFCO to complete all neccessary paperwork and test before 6th July will be very difficult.

How far along the application process are you?

Feel free to gimme a PM.

Thanks for the replies, those scores are after a decent warm up, and I haven't even started the application process which is what I'm most concerned about if I'm going to be on the 6th July date.

BOSS are you currently in the RMR? Do you really think those running times meet the minimum requirements?

doing same selection as you mate. First 1.5 mile done together, second is on ya own. Just stay with the pack and you'll be fine.

have you done your PJFT...

If not, then you need to get your 1.5mile time down.

because you need to do it in under 10minutes rite now on a tredmill...

I would suggest doing:

1 or 2 tempo runs a week (sprint 1/2mile, walk or jog 1/4mile)
1 hard 30minute run a week
1 easy 4-5 mile recovery run (just aim to run for 45--60minutes)

that should get your running up FAST.

Good luck!
