Fitness Decline

Post by Ollie_69 »

Hi guys I was just wondering if any of you know how long it takes for your aerobic fitness to decline or at what rate it declines during moderate inactivity? I did a search but to no avail.

It depends on how long you have been training for. If you train for 6 weeks, your fitness will return to shite in about 2-3 weeks.

This is true. However, there are some exceptions. I remember when I used to go home on leave I used to keep my fizz up to scratch. Not everybody did this. However, there was one guy who did nothing but get absolutely hammered during his leave with no fizz activity. On his return he always produced the goods to the highest quality.

That said: If you need to, its best to ease of training rather than cut it out all together. This way the road back to a physical peak isn't so difficult.

yeh, an athlete would be back to 'unfit' in 3-4 weeks of not training so no matter what level of fitness you're at, the reverse effects are a lot quicker than the gaining.

the saying "if you don't use it, you lose it" sticks out.

A good solid week off will do you good though, every now and then...

Bang on.

Everyones different ok, some excel more than others. Those who can just doss more and still produce the goods are just better in that area - thats gods gift to them lads.

While others will have to scrape to get back up, although once they find their form they'll be back on the case and start to excel a bit more.

You will soon know what your body can do and how to adapt.

All the best. 8)

If you have a harsh night on the beer say once every couple of weeks, how much would this affect your fitness?

thats a tough one to answer, but in relative terms id say not enough to cause any loss of sleep (some might argue). It would have more of an effect on your training if you didn't train for the few days after your night out because of a hangover. Then you're talking about 2-3 days off for one night out. Even then if it was only once every 3-4 weeks it wouldn't render you private pile.

it won't do you much good but personally id be able to live with a night on the piss whilst training as long as it wasnt too regular.

No affect. For me, beer is like fuel. However, it can make the going a little tougher and takes a little getting used to.

Like some of the guys have said, a little break here and there does more good than harm, but don't let it slip too much.

Cheers

If you want to join the Corps you better get used to smashing phys when you're still half cut from the night before

This is another case of the Corps not wanting you to be superman. Yes you need to be fit, but not excessively so; far more of it is in your head. You'd be surprised at the amount of what we do a reasonably fit civvy could achieve, but the difference is in willing yourself to keep going where most wrap their tits in (3am on Dartmoor when it's pissing down, you're lost, it's clagged in, your feet hurt and you've still got ten miles to go).
