not another press ups question?

Post by letsrole »

Right here it is (used the search) what is the point in marine style press ups? Is it just to show marines are 'tough'- they get set an extra hard task during selection? Because it doesn’t exactly involve great deals of skill. So I’m just wondering what the marines have to gain by setting these press ups, if it is for the 'toughness' thing then why don’t they just do normal press ups but more of them? Also the same for the palms facing out on chin ups. I’m not moaning here just wondering because it just doesn’t make sense. Fair enough if it’s for the toughness thing I can understand if it’s used to filter out all the weeds because I know that they are difficult but just why not more normal press ups?

The royal marines don't do normal press-ups, because they are not normal.
Its all about self discipline, to show that you still have it under alot of pressure. No dis mate, but this is a bit of a pointless question. The royal marines have lots of weird and wonderful stress positions, other then press-ups :D

A good one would be for you to put your head between your knees and kiss your arse goodbye for asking such a silly question.

On this page alone there are threads pertaining to the never ending story of Press Ups. After a couple of days in the Corp you will be an expert on all kinds of press ups. Marine ones, Even Submarine ones if you do a mud run.

The idea is exactly what you said, "to weed out the weak". Now, if you find them difficult, you best get practicing. The whole point of the POC/PRMC is to see if you can hack it and if you have strength of mind. By saying that it doesn't go down well. Never go for the easy way or you will fail

Different variations of press/chin-ups use different muscle groups so therefore using variations in style enable the PTIs to assess your suitablity to do the role required of a royal marine commando.

Anyway you twonk why argue against centuries of tradition and accumalated knowledge. The marines do what they do cos they can and are good at it. If you dont like it go join the scouts!

Yeah point taken it was a bit of a stupid question but you don’t see the ‘paras’ or even the SAS (only from what I have read) doing these and they also claim to be elite so I was just wondering why it was only the marines.

Ive always thought they have done press ups etc diffrently so that when preparing for PRMC you basically have to start a exercise programme from scratch and show self discipline and self motivation by sticking to it, because you always find people who are naturally good at the normal press ups and sit ups methods etc but not the marine method. So the result of this would be building up close from scratch to get better at the royal marine method.

You know the press up pyramid that goes from 10 down to 1, what are the rest intervals between each set, is it 5 seconds holding the position?
Thanks.

PRESSUPS ARE FARKING PRESSUPS!

Try very very hard to engage your Brains and look at the other farking pertinant stuff on the RM threads! I.E. the stuff you really need to know

I've had me fill of this Crap! No Farking Messtins! If your main worry about joining the Royal Marines revolves around Press Ups then may I suggest you try joining the Frigging Brownies!!

Because engaging your brains and taking in what is written by people who have Been There, done it and are quite willing to impart the Knowledge and Wisdom they gleaned from farking doing it seems to be a No Go area for some of you bloody Twonks!!!

i was under the impression that the prmc press-ups and para press-ups were the same, since ive been told to "look foward and keep my elbows in, nipples to the floor" for preperation for p company

anyway, doesnt matter, these are just the peliminary fitness tests, if you want to be a royal youll have bigger fish to fry than a bloody bpfa i would imagine
