Royal Navy accept first practising Satanist!!

London, October 25

Britain's Armed Forces have enlisted their first Satanist after a naval technician serving on a frigate was granted permission to practice his beliefs while at sea, the Ministry of Defence says.

Defending the decision to allow a Satanist among the Royal Navy's ranks, a ministry spokesman said on Sunday it was an "equal opportunities employer" and did not discriminate against specific religious beliefs.

"He went to his commanding officer with a request to practice his beliefs on board his ship and it was granted ... We believe he is the first avowed Satanist to serve in the military, but there is no official register of beliefs," the spokesman said.

The Sunday Telegraph newspaper said Chris Cranmer, 24, from Edinburgh would be allowed to have a funeral carried out by the Church of Satan should he be killed in action.

The Church of Satan was founded in the 1960s, but Satanism can refer to a diverse set of practices that include viewing Satan as a force of nature.

Members of the church, which rejects Christian ideas of God and the Devil, follow 11 Satanic Rules of the Earth.

The belief system has been condemned as a cult by some religious groups and at least one opposition politician expressed dismay after Cranmer won permission to practice Satanism aboard a Royal Navy ship.

"I am utterly shocked by this," said Conservative parliamentarian Anne Widdecombe.

"Satanism is wrong. Obviously the private beliefs of individuals anywhere including the armed forces are their own affair but I hope it doesn't spread," she said.

Ex-URNU-Student,

So hold up. This is serious or a joke?

If this is serious, i would find that personally very discouraging from serving in Her Majesty's Forces.

I seen it a few days ago on the BBC website.

I`m as liberal as they come but cant agree with this one.

Santanism preaches you indulge in self gratifcation, greed, gluttony and anything to make you happy. At sea or at war these are qualities that you dont want someone serving with you to have.

He wants to grow up out of this depressive state of mind he is in, listen to some good music, stop pulling legs of insects, stop the self harm and have a wash.

It was in the Sunday Telegraph, the person is a serving officer in the Royal Navy. It did give all his details, I can just imaging the tunes on the ship as he walks around to the strains of "That Old Black Magic". Now if some one says go to hell are the blessing him or insulting him, you tell me.

its not like hes going to be making many friends or go up in rank very fast,
they are most likely going to hold him back as much as possible and give him
the shittiest jobs in the ship lol..

but hey you are free to practice whatever relegion you want I agree with that, but that doesnt mean people around
have to like you, which they wont...

i think its pc gone mad.

the last thing you want from someone watching your back is to know that he is a devil worshiper.

this will cause a major problem if its allowed to cary on in the army where there are close worknig conditions with live weapons are around.

most religions are about peace, love and harmony. this one goes completely the other way.
yours aye

Gonna have to try that one!

I'm fairly sure they have a list of what religions are allow and what are not, long as you are on the list you are fine. Why Satanism would be on this list is beyond me. Are women allowed in combat units, no. Is the armed forces an equal opportunities employer, no. Should the armed forces be an equal opportunities employer, no. I'd have an Agnostic lass over a Satanist bloke backing me any day!

Redhand,

I have personally met three Pagans in the Army. I don't know if that was the religion stated on their documents, but they were all practising at the time I knew them. I can't see why it would be disallowed, after all where have there ever been regulations that bar any type of faith?
Regards

Pasha
But Pasha, you know as well as i do that theres a world of difference between WORSHIPPING SATAN and lighting candles to the forest gods.

Read some satanic literature and ill think you'll find that it goes against everything the armed forces believes in.

I suppose one can look at the bigger picture and say "well, im pretty sure this is an anomaly".

I think, though, that just represents some serious lack of judgement on the MOD's part.

I mean...SATAN!!??
