Anyone in the process of joining the Light Infantry?
I have my RSC date coming up soon..anyone in the same boat?

cool, It normally takes 2 weeks for the medical forms to be checked over, after that I had 2 formal interviews and now i'm waiting for the RSC date to come through. I was hoping to take the para-course once i was in the army and train to be fit enough. The SSgt who interviewed me, said that it's not all that easy to get a place for para-training, with a regiment like the light-infantry it's more geared to train you for them, and they don't like to send people away to other units. I don't know weather it was a test at all, just to see if it was a definite decision or not. He did mention what he thought might be a better alternative? I'm not sure.
He seemed to question why I didn't want to do a trade job, like engineering or communications and why I didn't want to join a much more "elite" regiment like the para's or commando's! Because there's less para and commando units they tend to have more operational tours and training opportunities that come around more often. They seem to do a lot of the opening fighting, 'first one's in' and do the additional recce assesments, to see what back up they need. Which I knew already, but no way am I near fit enough yet. My mind is but my body isn't keeping up!
It made me think, but like I say I'm really not sure if it was a test or not. He did say I'm not trying to put you off! I did stand my ground but in my head I was thinking, am I really doing the right thing? Is this really what I want to do? so on and so on! I always said to myself If I don't like it, or it's not what I thought it would be, it's going to be hard whatever it is, but I always have the opportunity to come out or change units......................I hope!!!

Guys forget about transfering, it will not happen, do not join a unit that isn't your first choice, believe me I know I joined saying after 3 years I would transfer, well after 7 years in the Army of getting f@@ked about I decided to leave and next month I start basic in the Royal Marines.
It is not impossible to transfer but it is very hard and you will find this out,especially from something like the RGJ to the Paras, not only will your work mates treat you like dirt for wanting to be a para, when you get to the Paras they will treat you like dirt for being an ex Jacket. Remember paperwork ie a transfer request that is nice and safe in a filing cabinet has a magic way of finding its self in a bin.
If you want to join the Paras then join them not something else, if that means you have to wait a year or so to get fit enough then do it, other wise beleive me you will regret it.
