ASOP / Trade interview

Post by dookie1412 »

Hello,

I have now applied as ASOP, have passed my medical, and have been told i should expect to have my interview at the afco next week. What i would really like to know

1. Is there any information on Aerospace Systems Op trade that anybody can point me in the direction of (other than the caeers website and afco info sheets which i have, i canot seem to find much else) - the content on the sheets is prob. enough but would rather know too much than too little.

2.Can anybody whom has sat the trade interview ive me any tips that may help me prepare ./ during the interview?

All previous help has been very much appreciated and any further help, likewise.

Cheers

I am also going in for this trade, and i'm just waiting for my security clearence.

The interview isn't that bad, they just ask you about yourself, family background, education, etc... and then WHY you chose that trade and what you know about it. I was asked about the trade training for ASOP which is 11 weeks at RAF Boulmer.

Just read up on all the info given to you at the AFCO.

Good Luck

Some good 'gen' on ASOP.........

....Over the past few years the Surveillance stations at RAF Buchan (near Peterhead, Scotland), RAF Saxa Vord (Shetland Isles) and RAF Benbecula (Scottish Western Isles) have been 'drawn down' (i.e. the fighter control bunkers have been closed). The same is due to happen to RAF Neatishead (Norfolk, near RAF Coltshall).

Under the recent cuts, RAF Boulmer will also be closing and the fighter control/ASOP school will be moving to RAF Scampton (Lincolnshire).

Apart from working in Lincolnshire, ASOPs will remain to be employed on AWACs duties in the E3D Sentry aircraft based at RAF Waddington (also in Lincolnshire).

1ACC (the tactical ASOP unit) will also move to Scampton - but will continue to spend the majority of their time abroad :-)
