Who said he was going to give it back than? Sending Hoon over there is a fairly strong signal that he's not going to give it back. I suppose it's up to the locals, if they want to go back to Spain they should, but my guess is they won't want to go back. What's this then, you starting to bash Blair on an issue that isn't even there.

What fold would that be?
They are already part of the EEC (?) and part of NATO.
The Gibraltese consider themselves as British.
They are about as British as the Spanish enclave in Ceuta. But they want to stay British and as far as I am concerned they should be allowed to do so.
At the recent referendum on the subject - 98% of the vote was to stay British. And before you ask, there was an 89% turnout! That beats anything that we could do here.
Gibraltar wants to stay British!

Hmm, well basically the UK (along with the US) are not in Spains good books at the moment. Spain does not see whats going on in Iraq as legitimate......
But thats another long story.......
Strange how the people in Gibraltar are proud of being British, yet most people in blighty couldn't care less........

There are many figures from the 2001 referendums which can be interpreted in many different ways. Ultimately, they do seem to want to stay British.
How many of you have visited Gibraltar? The streets try so hard to be British, and yet have a certain Spanish aura about them, even if it is just the laid back air. It's not like a British town, more like a bootleg town with British tradition. The Llanitos are their own people, neither British nor Spanish, somewhere in between the two. And the result is a tad...well, strange. Try fish and chips there. Not quite the same somehow.
I do not think we should give the 'island' back, however it is a very big bargaining chip as far as the Spanish are concerned.
If you've been to DisneyLand Florida, imagine the Britain bit but isolated on an island a thousand miles from their homeland. The only real attraction is cheap booze and fags.
