Where do Aussies recruit from?

I heard somewhere they recruit aussie special forces straight from civvie street and someone posted a picture up ( i cant find it now) about it.

They recriuted from civvy street during the Vietnam era and they did not do too badly in combat either, they had a very low rate of of deaths in combat. As for today I would guess that they are drawn from thr regular forces.

I think i read somewhere that the SAS lost 16 men during the whole of Nam. Not sure though, could be wrong.

yeah they are recruting civvies know but only for 4RAR commando not SAS although the commandos are very similar to the sas but the are only part-timers and preform sas like roles but when a larger force is requierd.

i think the standards will fall now that they are recruting civvies and they should go full time!

There has been a push to recruit from the police tactical response teams, fire'ies etc..

Some of that was the issue of not having enough people in place due to the tragedy of the Blackhawk accident where a number were killed in training.

That accident, Bali and a few other "incidents" meant that the squadron was coming up short.

They still keep out the "rambo's" though....
