Well done Marina, you have discoverd the truth about our septic cousins, they confuse education with intelligence.
Most Americans of my acquaintance are very well educated and therefore consider themselves intelligent.
In reality the bulk of them couldn't find their own arse (or ass) in the bath.
American Customs has a huge problem with yanks arriving at the airport to go abroad and not possesing a passport, they all all say things like "Why do I need a passport, I'm an American"
If you want an example of US parochialism read USA today "World News" page. You'll find nothing of value exists outside the states, in their opinion.

Archie, interesting that you degrade Americans then quote one at the bottom of your page......
First to Fire!!!
"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."
- Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948)
"When you have to kill a man, it costs nothing to be polite."
- Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

I am merely stating my personal opinion, garnered from 47 years experience of life, a considerable amount of which has been spent all around the globe, both as a Royal Marine and latterly a civilian.
I stand by my observations, which incidentally you do not dispute.
With regard to Thomas Edison, he was a man of great vision, tirelessly hard working, and a great example to follow.
I use his words as my signature because I try and use that very idea in all my business and personal dealings, but I do not take the credit for the phrase, as some might.
Interestingly your signature reads "First to Fire". We have seen many examples of Americans being over eager to fire in the past, it is not something to be proud of. To paraphrase a member of this forum "When we fire, the enemy ducks, when the yanks fire, everybody ducks"

Archie, I agree that most Americans are retarded, but so are most people from all countries. I've been to England twice and I have to say not everyone I met there was all that cerebral. Nor did they see the need for oral hygiene, why is that? But whatever, The USA's GDP is larger then the rest of the world's combined, we'll spend more on defense in one year then all of Europe and Asia will gross domestically. Our technological advances are the marvel of the modern world. People flock to our shores for a better life. Historians openly agree at no point in time was the gap between the world's most powerful country and second most powerful country so wide. So for a bunch of backwoods ignoramus', we're doing okay.
As far as my signature. "First to Fire", I stand by it. It's served Americans well since 1776
Our military is in the business of killin' folks not making friends. I regret the loss of your troops to our bullets. It's very tragic. However firing first and asking second saves US lives. I suggest you read a book called "On Killing" by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman. US soldiers are lethal not by accident.

In line with my earlier post, here we have an example of a person who knows the cost of everything and yet the value of nothing.
True the U.S. has made some huge leaps in technology, many of which can not be attributed to American citizens, but nevertheless the U.S take the credit.
True also that people are flocking to your country in an attempt to be a part of the American dream. The mythology they have bought into is indeed spellbinding.
Another truth is that the U.S. consumes more of the worlds resources per capita than any other country. Your government went to war in Iraq to secure a strong position in the world oil market. The fact that your politicians spout that Iraqi oil is only 7% of your domestic requirement is besides the point. The point is that the US and to a smaller degree the U.K. now have a much bigger say and sway in what happens with world oil supply.
George Dubya has long been in the pockets of the oil industry, Tony Blair desperately wants public approval to boost his forthcoming campaign for Sainthood, sorry re-election. As for WMD, try as they might, nobody has so far found anything tangible. Call me a cynic, but if something doesn't turn up soon, they'll have to manufacture some evidence.
As for your support for shooting first then asking the questions, it was hardly a roaring succes in Vietnam, Somalia, Tehran..................
Hearts and minds are more important than bombs and bullets. I am proud that I never took a life with my rifle, but I think I may have helped save a few with it.
We should, I think, agree to differ as your belief system and mine are too far apart to reconcile.

Archie,
That was a very eloquent piece. Hope you don’t mind but I’m going to keep that one in my archive. Absolutely brilliant!

Archie, listen, here's the problem. Most people can't seem to separate Americans with American's government.
I'm proud of my country and you're proud of yours. I was fortunate enough to be born in the US. So I will never truly understand the fear or at least concern of being a citizen from a country that must ride in the wake of a larger more powerful nation. And you on the other hand will never know what it's like for every one in the world to look on to you with suspicious eyes simply because of where you were raised and the responsibility that it entails.
Our belief systems are really not that different. It's our perspective.
The US government has sent our young men in to battle, with the exception of a few conflicts, with let's say less than a clear agenda to "help" other nations. It is b/c of Vietnam, Somalia, hell even WWII that I have this view. Young Americans are buried all over the globe and for what? So nations we see as ungrateful to the sacrifice paid for their freedom can hate us. So our government can leave us hanging out to dry in another foreign wasteland? US Soldiers stop caring about anything else but getting home b/c, the government is viewed as untrustworthy the populace we typically fight for is against us; even a significant number of our own populace hates us. We fight for our battle buddies. So a lot of people get unnecessarily killed but the mentality is better he then me or the stupid bastard shouldn't have came into my AO etc. It isn't pretty but that's the reality. It's tragic it's terrible it's a crime but that's the way it is. And that's why 98% of every single generation of US fighting men (who've been involved with combat, directly or indirectly) has suffered from some sort of PTSD. Only 2% of those who were predisposition to sociopathic or psychotic tendencies avoid this. It's because of the above.

The people are inextricable from the government, "of the people, by the people and for the people" I beleive it says.
I was in California during George Dubyas election. It was farcical, and kept me amused for hours.
If you can't see a fix when it stares you in the face then perhaps you'd like to buy some ocean front property in Arizona that I have for sale at a very reasonable price.
Face facts you've been had, it's all a sham, and has been since Gulf War 1.
Why did the allies not complete the job then? In my view it was because the UN were too closely involved and would not have allowed the US and its allies control of the oil. Also the Shi'ites were too strong and would have forced a coalition government which would have been as anti American as the Hussein Regime.
Now the Shi'ites are all but emasculated and with the UN saying they want no part of it no wonder Georges pals said it was time to go for it. So although the weapons inspectors could find no credible WMD evidence, and despite no solid links to international terrorism, George says "Go get 'em"
Why has Russia changed it's tune? Because a deal has been struck, they were only pissed because the deal they had with the Iraqis was obviously dead in the water since the war began.
On the subject of supporting terrorism 2 words, Noraid, Sandonistas.
