Will i be upto it?

Post by mr.zog »

Hey there guys, i'v been lookin round this site for a while now - and its full of GREAT information (ceratinly helped me anyway!!!) i'm 17 at the moment, and just doin me A-Levels. But my dream in life is to join the RMC's. i want to finish my A-levels 1st, so i have exactly a year to get fit. (joining this time next year) i train like 4/5 times a week, including Running 3/4 miles, Weight trianing with dumb bells, curcuit trainin, Cycling 20/30 miles in bout n hour / hour n half. Swimming bout 70 / 100 lenghts (i'm a professinal swimmer). Do u think i will be upto joining Britans elite fighting force?

Many Thanks For Your Time,

you sound like you have good cv fitness, what is your strength like? eg press-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, etc. don't worry if you've got a year.
pain is your ally; it lets you know you're still alive!!!

Hey, My strenght is not to bad, a could do 60 (maybe 70 pushups civvie style) but only bout 20 (maybe 30 Marine style) - needs a lil work, and sit ups i can do 80 but it takes longer than the 2mins to do all 80.

But hopefully by this time next year i shud be ok

It seems that you are well on your way with the fitness. Keep on pushing yourself, and try to get the sit ups and press ups rep numbers as high as you can. Also, how are your pull ups?

On the PRMC, are the pullups almost allways on beams?

If so then it may be a good idea to do some pullups with a thick towel or something wrapped around the pullup bar to strengthen the grip strength in your hand. This (I think  ) will make the pullups on the beam easier.

You're gonna be breezing through them in a year. Just stick at it and keep focused.

Welcome to the forum mr.zog, I think that the RM training is harder but then again I am not to familiar on the Para's training.

I had hoped my pervious post had got that message across, but if it didn’t I wasn’t trying to add to who’s the best, who’s the hardest, who has the biggest bollox question sorry for any confusion caused...

I knew what your post was about Lew, found it quite amusing in fact. I just thought that a little firm touch might help prevent anyone else from entering the bigger bollox argument. :fadein:

What's the difference between a civvie press up and marine style ? and the marine press ups where you work you triceps more and get your elbows goin behind you instead of out to the sides ?
If it aint hurtin it aint worth it
