Hey newbs, I can't say that I'm an ex recruit but I have been to Halton with the cadets and have spoke to the recruits there.
You should aim to be able to do the following in terms of fitness:
Run 2 miles in under 14 and a half minutes
Do 12 press-ups in 30 seconds
Do 15 sit-ups in 30 seconds
And be able to get to level 10 on the bleep test.
This is what you don on the initial filtness test when you arrive at Halton.
If you cannot do any 1 of these things do not worry because they will make sure you can by the time you do tour final fitness test at the end of the the 9 weeks. This is done by constant PT.
Hope this helps and good look.

Shin Splints
You mentioned shin splints, I too am due to start recruit training and have been in training especially running since my first interview back in January and shin splints have constantly blighted my training. Ive done the usual, bought the correct training shoes and ensure warm up cool down is done correctly to no avail. After a few days of running I am back in pain and back on the ibuprofen. Any Advice?
halton training solution
i passed out of halton around 5 months ago now and didnt have any problems on the fitness aspect of training, and i really despise running, you do not have to run a mile or mile and a half in a set time the raf binned that idea and left that to the army etc. just put in a lot of effort and you will be fine the 1st few days are the worst :fadein:
and as for the shin spints when i was training for the raf i suffered them and was really worried and thought if the raf found out they wouldnt let me in anyway i decided to have pysiotherapy privately which cost me 400 and it worked until the 1st fitness test on the 1st day. my advice is ease of the training until u go in and loadsa stretching and hot and cold around the area, like frozen peas then change over to a hot water bottle it helps it to heal then try ure best 4 the first couple of weeks then if they r still bad go to the med centre and they will take u off Ped until they healed. :fadein:

running
i was also told that on top of a 1.5 miler in 11 minutes and a level 9.1 on the bleep tet (shuttle run) a 5 miler in 35 minutes is needed. its hard and sounds wrong but a corporal told me this during my first enquiry
Death is Gods way of saying you failed selection

Re: halton training solution
but you still have to do cross country. are there any rules on this as in when you finish, and can you fail on it? or is it just an exercise?raf-newb wrote:i passed out of halton around 5 months ago now and didnt have any problems on the fitness aspect of training, and i really despise running, you do not have to run a mile or mile and a half in a set time the raf binned that idea and left that to the army etc. just put in a lot of effort and you will be fine the 1st few days are the worst
