Pain in later life ?

Post by Chester »

Later on in his life, my old fella used to get bouts of stiff & aching knees every now and then, he always put it down to carrying heavy loads and giant size radios (A14 perhaps  ) from his NS & RMR days

Like in the the other thread 'Would you do it all again', I reckon he would of without question, despite having to 'shuffle around like a monk' on the painful days.

Anyone else get 'painful days' and think was it worth it ?

Every time the wind swings SE and the rain comes down, the dreaded Arthritis hits both knees, the back gives me notice to quit and I tend to fart more. Don't understand the last bit, well not medically anyway. It usually happens after a few Guinness. :o
Course it was worth it, I wouldn't have anything to bore you bastards with otherwise, would I? I heard that Black Rat!

I get the occasional ache and pain, knees, hip mainly. Having nearly lost my right leg to gunshot wounds this does not surprise me. I was also heavy weapons most of my career, so heavy manpacks were the order of the day. I believe that these aches and pains are, in general, age and occupational related and not soley confined to ex military. My wife was a nurse all of her working life and she started in the days when a five foot nurse was expected to transfer 300 lb patients, without the modern aids now available, she now suffers with her knees and back.

Let's face it guys, we is just wearing out. I am stupid, so of course I think that it was worth it. Nothing that a bottle of Johnnie Walker can't fix.

Aye - Andy. :drinking:

What does Nursey give for medication Rob ?

The old fella used to swear by a few whiskies in the local and by the end he'd be giving it 'fiddler on the roof'

You never know it may have been a crafty booty plot to sink a few :drinking:

I always remember being at Deal, about second week in, our Instructor (Bunty Stonestreet) saying that those of us who stayed the course and did the full 22 yrs would end up as 40 year old broken down crippled wrecks.
It took a little longer but here I am with knackered knees, permanent back trouble and rheumatism. Nothing I can't cope with though.
Was it worth it? Damn right.

I get a pain in me right lug 'ole every time John moans about his knackered knees, the metal plate in his ankle and the fact that he can't run anymore.
Oh yes, and he must have been the only blind sniper in the Corps as he can't see a thing without his specs! :(
If he were a horse he would be taken out and shot. And there's no let up, when I go to work, my boss is ex, and I still have to listen to his knees crack !
Ear defenders, anyone ?
Love Sandy

I was eventually CRMMB'd out of the Corps and have since had quite a few problems (lower back) even though I'm still a young skin and you ask if it was worth it mate? Every bloody second and given half the chance I'd be back there now. Best time of my life and it makes us who we are now.

Jim, I thought you only drank your wobbly coffee black
You could always do what Derek does and try Niagara :P

This has been covered elsewhere, get down to yer pharmacist and get yerself some omega 3 capsules, they take a few days to start working and the differance is incredible

Ref. what Sandy said really, the old fella was a bit deaf in one ear, mainly to do with the fact that he wasn't supplied with Ear Defenders when he did his NS - Managed to get himself a couple of grand damages from the Gov't though

Paid for the double glazing !

Ref my last, Omega 3 capsules are available with various extras. Your missus will benefit from the one with extra calcium and the one you want has glucosamine sulphate in it.
Stuey, Yorkie has a spot on his "old fella" any idea of the cause? :o
