Yes i think its a good idea for the followig reasons :

1: Some people(heaven help then) dont know of the forums yet and have no way to compare fitness levels with other potential jedis........i mean recruits

2: It saves money in the long run as people will only be sent if they are capable not needing to go again other than the 30 weeks.

3: Doesnt take the place of someone who IS capable and just waiting around

4: Stop you looking like an 'arse' failing miserably on everything you do.

As for the 1.5 miles in 10 minutes you could easily do it( well i could) at a steady pace, wonder why its not a 3 miler. Im not however sure about it being on a treadmill because i cannot run to save my life on them,10 minutes at 15 kmph and im bored stiff watching myself in the mirror,id rather run round across country jumping into any puddle on the way and scaring old ladies walking there dogs

My PRMC brief was the same day as my interview and medical and basically involved a run down of what was on the course, how i would travel there with no physicall activity.

Personally I doubt the MoD would pay for you to use the gym, get you and a member of the recruiting staff, just to see you jog for ten minutes - I would expect even if unofficially you would do some press ups, pull ups etc even if just so they can warn you if you're below standard. And I'm wondering if the standard is set so tht complete donkeys don't waste time, but simultaneously not raising expectations so that when people do the real tests, they are taken by surprise and thus have to show a bit more mental strength to get through (or are all these conspiracy theory threads getting to me? :) ).

And just a side note, the difference in times for males and females? DISGUSTING

Sorry to be the thick person here, but are you saying this could potentially replace the PRMC?

If so I would be quite suprised, it's certainly less challenging than three days of pure hard work, but then I did read somewhere not that long ago that there were a shortage of recruits.

Perhaps this is seen as a way of encouraging more recruits?

no, this is no way instead of the PRMC....Yoda would not stand for it in his corps....its like a Pre-PRMC...

they just gave me a letter and said its not quite up and running and you may fall through the leap hole because of this...

i think it may be rather usefull as to do all the admin and send someone to Lympstone for 3 days and then back down for BT costs 2000 he was saying so this could considerably cut first time time wasters who are unfit enough.....

cheers dave

Thanks for clearing that up Dave, that makes sense really...

I'd hate to think standards were dropped just to try and attract more recruits.

I agree with Voods, the blokes should be running a lot faster than that! Be sensible, the only girlies capable of beating or keeping up with blokes is Paula Radcliffe and Capt Pip, actually that's not true, but wouldn't you feel a prat if you were beaten around 1.5 miles by a girl?
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

so true prez....

i was watching a program on one of the many digital channels and it stated that men try harder when in competition or proforming in front of prospective mates...similar to the animal kingdom i believe!!

maybe they should hire a "civvy" to stand next to the assault course at CTCRM and maybe a few posters in the gym..you never know the outcomes.......;)

Maybe if you ask nicely they will put on a stereo with music to keep you going and a bar at the end of the obstacle course to get that much needed cool drink

Sounds like an army BFT, Battle Fitness Test. Its one and half miles.Just run your balls off.6 mins is a world beater, 9 mins is good. My last one was 9.11 and I'm a fat git.

If you really want to be fit do a two miler. 2 miles, helmet on head, smock, weapon, 35LB bergan and 18 minutes to complete.Mega.
