Endurance run- POC

Post by Marine wannabe »

Hi..

you might have guessed, im new.. but been looking around for a bit, thought id ask a question here...

In the POC, the booklet i got said that candidates undertake an Endurance run... i wanted to know, is this a time/distance/ last person to drop out thing? Or do you keep going until the PTI/ PT officer gets bored?

Just wanted to ask, so i knew what to aim for for training. I dont have a POC date yet, wont have one for a very long time!... but obviously, the more time i have to train, the better...

thanks :)

I think (from what i remember when i wanted t be an officer) its a 6 mile endurance course, its basically tunnels, streams cross country then a 4 mile run home. Im not sure if its the 'proper' endurance course undertaken in commando week or its just a 6 mile beasting. I also seem to remember a telephone pole being involved thou i think this is now abolished on the endurance course.

Cronkilla is right, though i'm not sure how it's staged. You are definitely shown around it, but I think there is a 'Hare and Hound' element, where an officer pegs it off and the POC guys have to chase him. I heard that in effect it is a 1500m sprint. :o Sounds bloody sick! I'm sure one of the guys who have done their POCs will help when they read the thread. To practice, i'd do lots of 6 mile runs hundred metre sprints stuck in every so often. Fun!

If its anything like the old PRC it will be a run round the endurance couse as a squad (2.5 miles) with the trg team showing you the way. The front 6 will be carrying a shovel or pick axe - if your not carrying a shovel/pick axe then your incentive is to make the top 6 and take over carrying one.

After you finish the couse you'll be split up into teams and do a 1 mile log race.

After that theres usually a fast run of between 1 and 2 miles (just to see who drops out)

Its not timed and pas/fail will be judged on the amount of effort you are seen to put in (obviously if you crimp out then you fail).

Cronkilla,

Been a long long time since I flogged around Woodbury Common but just to clarify a point, the `proper' endurance course isn't something reserved for commando week as you call it. By the time the test week arrives you will be able to run the course blind fold. Don't know whether, in these enlightened days the PWs still drop thunderflashes down the ventilation holes on one of the tunnels (muffled curses from underground) it was admittedly a dodgy thing to do, especially when the `flash was in the middle of a half pound of marge. Or was our training team just particularly evil ?

Enjoy and good luck to all the wannabees
