Richard Holmes is a history professor who does interesting progs for the beeb, and I thought that was all he did.
He`s actually the Col of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regt and was the most senior reserve officer in UK at one time. He`s been a TA officer since 1970 ish.
In 2004 he spent some time with the Regt in Maysan province and Basra and this book is based on a collection of loose interviews with the lads, from Charley Coy mostly. All good stuff, the day to day humdrum boredom punctuated with periods of intense adrenaline filled terror. The action involving Johnson Beharry is covered quite well.
Since it`s about the lads themselves, not the politics, I commend this book to the house.
