Politicians lying and getting away with it
I think it is very strange that politicians constantly lie and get away with it. Think about all the lies Tony Blair has said during the course of the Iraq war, not to mention lies concerning internal matters....he has not been forced to leave office despite trying to deceive the British public. The pressure from the media is not enough...most politicians manage to shrug off this pressure without having to face any real consequences...
Also, how about the way in which the MoD lie all the time? Ordinary people would not get away ith this

I know, but I don't think they should be able to get away with it. If an ordinary person lies or a business lies with the intention of deceiving they are liable to be prosecuted under the law...this does not seem to apply to politicians who are constantly deceiving the public and not being prosecuted. There should be a law to stop them

I forgot to mention, I found this website yesterday:
http://mo-truth.blogspot.com/2007/01/be ... truth.html
They are making a documentary about how politicians lie all the time nd get away with it, plus they seem to be interested in trying to get a law passed so that they can't lie...at last, people who care about the injustice of our current political system!

My point is that politics doesn't have to be this way. It doesnt have to be seedy and self serving. If politicians are forced to do what they are employed to to do i.e. serve the people that have given them power without deceiving these people then the world could be a better place...I believe that we can make that transition

People trying to make a change
If you feel passionately about the topic (especially in the wake of Tony Blair's decisions with regards to Iraq) then discuss your opinions on the website...I believe that if we show our support to these people then the law might get passed, otherwise parliament will not believe that anyone cares enough to even consider it and everything will just continue the way it is
Accountability......
who holds any of these people who govern us to account? eventually history and by that time there is a whole new generation upcomming who knew nothing of them and have their own generations problems to deal with,
If the german people had the benifit of hindsight, would they have followed Hitler? I would like to see the percentage of people who voted at the elections in the 50's, I have a sneaking suspision it would be high as the public would think they had better make sure it didn't happen again, didn't the same thing happen here post war both 1st and 2nd?
we need the younger generation to become politicised and care and believe that by using the vote things can be changed, i don't care who they vote for, but vote, care, have some opinion, see the wider picture until that happens and they realise they are accountable to you and me and that we will kick them out, they will continue to tell bigger and bigger
lies to us.
WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH.........oooh dear i really need to lie down, can you tell I missed the greenham common rallies.

I completely agree barbie. The thing is, it wil take a while to educate people so that they are interested in politics and understand that it is important. Thus, I think that a law should be passed so that politicians are held accountable for there actions. Take a look at this:
Public authorities: general
(1) It is unlawful for a public authority exercising a function to do any act which constitutes discrimination.
(2) In subsection (1)-
(a) "public authority" includes any person who has functions of a public nature (subject to subsections (3) and (4)), and
(b) "function" means function of a public nature.
(3) The prohibition in subsection (1) shall not apply to-
(a) the House of Commons,
(b) the House of Lords,
(c) the authorities of either House of Parliament,
(d) the Security Service,
(e) the Secret Intelligence Service,
(f) the Government Communications Headquarters, or
(g) a part of the armed forces of the Crown which is, in accordance with a requirement of the Secretary of State, assisting the Government Communications Headquarters.
Unbelievable!
I got this from the website I posted above, I think they have the right idea...they are trying to make a positive change

Well, I think a place to start would be to push for a law to get passed
so that if a politician is found to be lying he can be prosecuted.
I think I've mentioned this before, but I found a blog the other day: http://mo-truth.blogspot.com...they are making a documentary about lying politicians and how they currently get away with it...and they want to use the documentary to try and get a law passed to stop it.
I couldn't believe it when I found the page, there actually isn't a law like this at the minute!...it seems to be such a fundamental requirement for any democracy to work, but those creating the laws have made sure that they are above them
