It seems every man and his dog is joining the Royal marines at the moment. 100's maybe even thousands of Boot-neck hopeful's. Will this make joining the Royal marines even harder? What will happen if they get too many people trying to join?
Will they just bump up the 700 Green berret total?

In 1973 when I joined it was reckoned that it was harder to get in the Corp than it was to get a place for your son at Eton College. It's always been like that with the Corp.
But as the advert said: 99.9% need not apply. The AFCO staff know in their guts just who's got that little bit extra needed to be a Royal Marines Commando and the wheat is soon sorted from the chaff at the very early stage's of selection.
As long as you have the right mental attitude and are reasonably fit you will do fine in other words.

I was having a discussion very similar to this with some ex-marines and the local careers officer not too long ago. The careers officer reckoned the large numbers weren't making much difference as most were not up to standard. I've had 3 prmc's now and there deffinatley has been a reduction in standards in those that get on to the full course.
I failed my first one, 64 on course 17 passed, beasting on all of the 4 days.
Second was same again, as only 2 months later, 60 on course 20, i managed to pass that one.
Then joined up. Came out after getting injured and took 2 years off, went down to rejoin, did a third and didn't do one set of punishment push ups on the whole 4 days. About 40 on course and about 30 passed, some regulars on training said they weren't managing to get a prmc every week. Sometimes fortnightly.
I noticed a big change in the 2 year gap between 2003 and 2005. It's a bit sad to see, but did notice a drop in the 16-18 year olds on course, think a big decline in parents signing consent forms now.

As far as standards go, the 3miler in 22.5minutes used to be 5miles in 35minutes, don't know how much the course has changed other than that.

yep that's what the guys in training said to me, not holding prmc every week, and deffinatley no where near 60 on prmc if there was one.
that was in 2005 september,
I think I did that 5 miler in training, did it in around 28 minutes in shorts and trainers. But can't comfirm if it was 5 miles or 28 minutes just what was whispered.
The 3 miler, starts over the bridge upto the end of that road (around 1 mile), come back on yourself 100m but take a left down to a pub, turn round at the pub and come back upto the same track to the T junction and back to the bridge.
It's not hard but people around 4 or 5 will drop out on it.

From what people have been saying on mfat I thought PRMCs have been chock full.

do they still do that prmdc course for people who fail lol that used to annoy the hell out of my pti's my mate who i was in training with tells me lympstone has gone soft duvets, soft mattresses plus the corprols cant thrash you like they used to beceause of civvie counslers? plus i heard that they cant tank you any more lol memories of the tank in january in my swimming trunks then i had a chipolata lmao
ex nod was diagnosed with chronic compartment syndrome rejoining eventually.

They might have picked up again, I know my last one in sept 2005, there was around 40 on it at most.
never heard of the prmc for the ones that fail, so not sure on that one. I failed my first prmc and and told to come back in around 4 months, the sheffield careers office fixed that up, had prmc with everyone else.
when I went to the leeds careers office, He said "one chance and your binned, I don't care what they say down there, failure is permanent" luckily I passed his first go,
I think hunter company gets the duvets, and regular training at week 15-16 after an officers inspection, depending on results of that, you might get them.
They couldn't thrash you for ND's guy let his weapon off and section corporal shouted at him, said " in my day you'd be dragged through the gorse for 8-9 hours on woodbury, now your going to get a report and fined around £400."
They were tanking us, tanked every pt session that was 2004, they hated our troop, too many characters, too many stupid questions.
Used to be 2 types of couselors when i was there, 2 that were completely civvy, and one that was ex rm who'd served for 22. Section leaders didn't mind you seeing him, but God help you if you asked for permission to see the other 2.

It's 3 miles in total which consists of the following. 1 & half miles out as a troop, speed march pace which equates to a 10 minute mile pace. Then 1 & half miles back in as fast as you possibly can to the finish/start line. For a fit young bloke with ambitions on joining RM, 9 mins, roughly, is a good time to aim for for the individual run back.

they change it all the time, last one I did was back as a troop,
less fell out on the troop run back, because on the individual run back, some rambo wannabe's set off at a million miles per hour and are gassed before the end, lost about 10 on my first prmc on the 3 miler
