Recruitment Problem
I took my Aptitude Test on the 23rd May 2006 for RAF Regiment Gunner. I passed the test and I was told by the Corporal that I need to telephone the AFCO to arrange an interview after 1st June. Reason being is that the way the interview is conducted has changed.
I called on the 1st June and was given a date for my interview which was the 20th June.
On the 12th June I called AFCO to make sure my interview was still going ahead because I had not received any conformation letter or DVD etc.
The Sgt said that the person who arranged the interview with me had not marked it down on the computer. Plus I would have to redo my application forms and get my documents photo copied again as they can not locate them.
On Monday 19th June I called again as I have still not received my Conformation letter or DVD. The Corporal said that the letter and DVD has not been sent out yet and if I don't recive them by the 21st June to call back.
Are the RAF actually still taking on RAF Gunners ? Just seems really odd. I'm 22 years old and really need to get things rolling.

As far as I am aware the regiment is the only part of the RAF taking on more than just natural wastage. It will just be an admin error, give the AFCO another ring or go in and see them.

I have recently been on the RAF careers website and a lot of trades are in urgent need of personnel, included RAF Regiment Gunners, Weapons Crewman and even a few of the officer positions. I’m guessing this is a simple admin cock up because it seems the RAF are in need of quite a few applicants at the mo.
Anyway Good luck mate!

Its nothin to worry about mate. Its split into 3 parts.
1. Yourself, home/family, school
2. Your reasons for wanting to join RAF, regiment in particular.
You cant go wrong with those 2, just give honest answers. Don't BS.
3. What do you know about the job you want to do?
PGAC
Basic at Honnington, make sure you know how long it is.
Talk about what you may want to do in the regiment; for example II squadron, QCS. If you want to do II sqn make sure you know how long the pre para training is.
Just make sure you know about what you want to do. You don't have to know everything about it all.
Oh yeah make sure when you get asked what the regiment do and what there task is, you know. You will get asked that and if you don't know what the job you want to do is all about then your up the creek.
Good luck mate.

I just got back from AFCO and I passed !!, I'm so delighted
Thank you very much for your tips wannabe_rock they were extremly useful.
I was very nervous before I went in but as the interview went on I felt more relaxed.
Here are the questions I was asked, could be useful for people who have there interviews coming up.
1) About my family and my relationship with them.
2) Why in particular do I want to join the RAF Regiment and not the ARMY.
3) What does NATO stand for , how many countries, what is there role and what were the last 3 countries to enter.
4) How have I been preparing for my PGAC.
5) What clubs have I , or am a member of.
6) Why do I want to be a RAF Regiment Gunner.
7) Questions regarding the PGAC. ( How Long, whats involved )
TG Gunner Course, how long is it and what will I be doing.
Luckily I have looked up an awful lot more than what I was asked, I'm just very glad to get that stage out the way.
