Two Soldiers from Queen's Dragoon Guards killed in Basra

Post by SO19 »

Rest in Peace my friends.
Two Soldiers from Queen's Dragoon Guards killed in Basra
29 May 06

With deep regret the Ministry of Defence can confirm that two members of the Queen's Dragoon Guards were killed and two others suffered minor injuries in an incident which took place in Basra, Iraq, yesterday, 28 May 2006, at around 2130 local time.

The incident appears to have been an attack from an Improvised Explosive Device. The soldiers were from the Queen's Dragoons Guards part of the Basra City Battlegroup.

The next of kin of those killed have been informed and have asked for a period of time to come to terms with the news. Further information will be released here as it becomes available.

Defence Secretary Des Browne said:

"It was with profound sorrow that I learned of the tragic deaths last night of two British Soldiers. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of these brave men. I am told that two other men sustained minor injuries. The incident took place in North West Basra but you will understand that I cannot further until later."

The two lads who were killed were based out here in Osnabruck, the flag is at half mast and the mood very sombre. I was at Imphal Barracks this morning and you can see that the mood amoungst those left behind is that of worry especially by the wifes and families.

Rest in Peace. Image
