When I was 1st at Depot they were just phasing out the teaching of the GMPG to recruits in favour of the LMG.SO19 wrote:Why have they done that?
The reason for this, according to our Pltn Sgt, was that because the rest of the Infantry were replacing the GPMG in individual fire teams with the Minimi and only using the GPMG in support Coy the Director of Infantry had decreed that there was no longer a need to teach the drills for the GPMG at Depot anymore and because the Paras don't have autonomy over their training they had to go along with this ruling too, despite the fact that they still use them at section level at Battalion.
The staff weren't too happy and said they'd still try and give the Joes some hands on experience with them but not sure if they did or not.
Yea that was the score when i was there. Shortly before i was MD'd the platoon i was with started having GPMG lessons as a background activity on the ranges, and the staff were gonna try and get some live firing for us later on. Can't say if they did coz i was RTU'd to civ div before then lol.

"err sir, when you're on operations do you still get the weekends off?"

That Joe was full of smart remarks, his best was on exercise when our PC told us there were reports of enemy in the area wearing German uniforms, to which he asked "Sir, are they gonna be real Germans or just wearing German uniforms?" he also got decked in Battalion for bein a tw#t and upped sticks and left the reg, it was music to my ears as he'd passed out and i was still a sh#tstain in depot! No, but you can have a shelling instead!!

guess who got picked as lmg gunner??? me of course but it wasnt as bad as id thought it would be in fact i quite enjoyed the challenge of rectifying all the stoppages and stuff while attacking a position .on the second day of ex we did five seperate section attacks on different senarios which it was chuffing roasting and on the first attack my team delta team went firm in a ditch while charlie pepper potted foward lucky me fired the first shots in standing and the bloody bfa flew of the end of the f@#k gun into the ditch so i ran in after it tryed screwing it on then realised it had a reverse thread got it back on resume firing to find an itchy feeling up me arm and down me back looking around to find out id only gone and jumped right on top of the biggest f@#k ants nest youve ever seen in youre life so after five minutes trying to lay fire down and get the pesky f@#k off me we found a depth position and off we went and i had to peeper pot with the thick lad of the team across sort of a rubble car park wich f@#k me knees up royaly but all in all a good day .on the third day we got up at 3:30 and tabbed to the FUP and started patrolling towards the enemy position for our platoon attack came under cantact and the next hour or so was the most fun ive had in a long while we had ten depth postions and on the final one we some how got all six lmg gunners from the three sections up on a ridge laying rapid fire down which looked f@#k awsome platoon commander said it it was a really good attack and even complimented the lmg gunners for all the f@#k running around we did.
anyway lifes good did the two miler the other day for the first time and managed 20 min 10 on the first go which i think is good passed the APWT aswell the other day with the second highest score in the platoon so well chuffed with that and now im on a weeks leave ready for some adventure traing when we get back .
p.s im sure ive seen GPMG lessons in our rota which we start in a couple of weeks and one of the lads from athens said the other day that they used it on final ex
