This question pops up occasionally and the answer is always the same;

You can find out the answer to just about every military question on this forum. We can tell you about the component parts of the Navy, the Royal Marines, the Army, even the RAF. You can gain detailed knowledge on training issues you can obtain advice on physical fitness. There are guys on here who can brief you on what it was like on the Somme and others who will tell you about last night in Baghdad. If you want to prepare fully for whatever you decide then you have come to the right place.

There is only one question that cannot be answered here and that is what is the right choice for you as an individual. There is no-one on the planet who knows your strengths and weaknesses better that you do. By all means listen to good advice but the decision on the most suitable career for you has to be taken by the best person to make it; You!

Do your research, ask your questions and become fully aware of what you are potentially getting into. Then you and you alone can make an informed decision.

Godd luck.

Personally speaking...I joined the ordnance corps, although I stated I wanted to join an infantry regt because... I wanted to be a soldier... the blokes at the recruiting office have to fill their quotas and so chatted with me for ages until I joined, yep - you guessed it!!!

So there I was and I was lucky. I did several tours with the infantry and even went to Altenstadt in bavaria and managed to go on the Luftlande Kurs of the Bundeswehr and gained German para wings... good fun as well...

Regrets? A little, the life in a corps does not relate to the family life of a small regiment.

But that´s purely up to yourself. Make a choice and stick to it! :wink:

Doesn't matter which one you join then - they're amalgamating.

Ive been there, mind you theres a few Altenstadt's in Deutschland. A few brits do the Bergfuehrers course with the Bundeswehr each year down at Sonthofen, mainly SF but there is a sustained Brit presence from the Army in the Allgau, thats all changing now as the RM are moving in to a lodge I used to work at. There is a new Alpine Centre being built in Sonthofen for tri-service and bundeswehr use. Opening next year apparantly.

Theres a bit of a difference between the 2 of them but i just cant make up my mind, any Advice ?
Please take your time to decide which branch you want to join. As you know the Marine is the first they call to fight and the Army follows behind them. I am not sure how determined you are about joining the military but the ultimate decision is yours. Either way you will see direct combat without a shadow of a doubt.
