Just in defence of NIKE.

I generally don't like some of their trainers because they are built for looks rather than purpose.

I use some ASICS for indoor gym work and some NIKE AIR MAX for running.

Shins hurt if i use the asics for running.

Also on the Nike website you can design your own trainers for runners that over pronate, run flat etc.

If the Silver Shadows are still standard issue then I'll go with them :) They don't seem that bad but I guess you can't tell till you wear 'em.

On civvie running shoes I'd recommend Mizuno Wave Rider's. Theyre probably the most comfortable and cushioned shoes I've ever had. Not cheap but they perform. Can pick 'em up for about £60 if you're looking in the right places.

don't bother buying new trainers, you get issued a pair of "quality" hitec silver shadows which you'll be wearing within a week of starting at ctc.
