I take it they are for 'fashion wear' then and not for training in?
Why? Because I can!

Chester - you star, that's the beauties. I didn't hang about with them on - although I did splash out on some silver shadows as I got more serious (hard work pulling 20 odd sheets out of the wallet for a pair of trainers :o ). I had a pair of those Goal trainers ('Gazelle' I think they were called) - sheer class

That's it mate - you can hand over as much cash as you like to some spotty tw*t who will give you stacks of reasons why you're weak and not up to it unless you buy these new shoes, but at the end of the day if you haven't got the legs for it you might as well stay at home. Someone who's read enough about physiology to sell trainers has no conception of what training at CTC is like - neither has a podiatrist. If trainers were individually made then I think there may be a point.

Sounds harsh but we're talking about bootnecks and bootnecks are hard as nails - not weak. Fortunately you can't buy grit and a decent pair of bo**cks from the high street - and that's what it takes - its classless.

I'm going to walk calmly back to my box now and get back in it - and stand by for some flak

Yer most people buy them for fashion, I buy them because I like them and they are comfortable. If you buy trainers because they are cheap, well that's up to you. But I still use the for training in, they cost about £60 in the shops on the high street. I get my Reebok for about £30-40 down Dagenham Market , If you buy want to buy Green Flash because they are cheap will that's you choice, and how do they look more practical ??

At the end of the day if you got the legs, it don't really matter what's trainers you got on.

Lew,

Your observation rather overlooks the fact that `in the olden days' ( a phrase my daughters tend to use when referring to Dad's younger years)
we weren't quite on the same salaries that are now the norm, £3 a week when I left school rocketing to a lofty £7 (plus board) a year later when I joined the Corps. By gum I can remember going out wi' 10 bob in't pocket, seeing a film, a few pints an' fish and chips....... and still have enough etc.

Them is olden days Barry

Of course it's your choice to buy whatever you want - its a dismissive comment for you to make but one of the points of this forum (as I understand it) is to share experiences and give advice. I shared my experience - I didn't say that cheap trainers are better than more expensive ones or that trainers that look cool are better than others. If a point does emerge it's that in my humble opinion what trainers you have will make no difference whatsoever to your ability to become a bootneck - who is, after all, a soldier not an athlete. Which is the same point as you are making  Also, in my humble opinion, if you don't want 'shin splints' you won't get them. That's my advice - take it or leave it my friend.

Thanks mate - not going to live that one down in a hurry  You are 'the protecetd one'.

Luckily enough I took to a spot of sleepwalking at CTC and there was a complete nobber in my room (I was room i/c and took the brunt of this lad's misfeasance). On more than one occaision I awoke to the sound of protests as he awoke to a warm shower. Didn't happen often (enough) though mate. I've still got my blanco'd pumps (with the big rope climbing scar down the side) - the missus was going to get then plasticated and mounted for me :o Hope all's well with you.

Jason, re-reading my post it seems a bit harsh mate - I don't mean to have a dig - I think we agree anyway
