My next door but one neighbour was skipper of one of the teams last year and he had them training twice a week before the comp. As time rolled on towards the comp training was once a day either at lunch time or in the evening. Bearing in mind that Collingwood are the holders they will be training like crazy for this year. All of the main runs are in one day and if you go to the final I think you could have 4 runs during the day.

I watched it last year and it was hard fought... it is nothing like the Royal Tournamet Field Gun but it is a tough sport.
Drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed...

Way back in the dark, dark days of the mid-fifties I was a member of the RM team who took part in the tournament which was held at Whale Island. Our boss and trainer was QMS Jumper Collins and he used to have us running up and down Eastney beach in the shingle every morning at 0600  For the life of me I cannot remember how we got on in the tournement but I'm sure it was enjoyable at the time and there must have been some perks otherwise I have no doubt we wouldn't have volunteered.
