hi all
hi all
Hi, I'm Andy. I'm a 2nd year student doing Interpol + Military History in Aberystwyth. In the OTC at the moment, its more like Army club to be honest! There are a few Army and Marine bursars in there and some good lads and ladies but some are so far up their own backsides with a sense of superiority.
Like a good lad who graduated last year and went for the RAF, its put me off joining as an officer although I am having a go at RCB Brief in Feb 2004.
Seriously considering the Int Corps, as a soldier....

I fear any of the Marine bursary candidates who are `so far up their own backsides' are going to be in for a shock. The RM takes you as you come, respect, be you an officer or OR, has to be earned by displaying a clear ability to do your job and to be a team player. I have seen a few young officers bite the dust because of their imagined superiority just didn't impress anyone. As for the rest, and I hope it includes the potential RMs, good luck to them .

one marine bursar is 3rd year at bangor uni now, top guy. the other i know is switched on but has a superiority complex, same age as me. passed POC and AIB when he was nearly 18. he comes accross too keen, bought a Para smock, assault vest when we did FIBUA. and he talks down to you a bit, which is strange because he's from london and not a posh background.
int corps seems interesting once i could get beyond the basics.

Re: hi all
Your the first guy to realise that the OTC is'nt the TA ! Most of the people i know in the OTC think of themselves as TA Officers.thebrasso wrote: In the OTC at the moment, its more like Army club to be honest! ....
Anyway welcome Brasso
if its anything like my UOTC then they won't. our officers are regular Army DS or they have done a TA commissioning course, passed a selection board and done a few weeks at Sandhurst.
just seems like we have some total biffas in my OTC.
we were told tonight doing a BATCO lecture to go for a break be back by 2025, a few people were late so we all got press-ups. only had to do 20, some struggled with that! bearing in mind we've been in the unit a year, even though we're students in my view if you are being paid you should develop your fitness.

hi, well its a good uni. academically, depends on what she's studying. hope she's got a reasonable standard of fitness, hills are a killer
the nightlife isn't brilliant, basically you have the union, pier pressure and the glen, and lots of pubs. but after the 1st year she wont be able to go out all the time due to lack of money/too much work (just like me).
i'd recommend it, definitely! lots more relaxed than these city universities.
oh yeah, the police are keen. we got done for racing office chairs down the main road from the uni. but my dad got caught doing 110mph in a 60mph past newtown somewhere and just got a warning, not formal.

hi, well he was in his citroen c5.
i've got some serious doubts about the Army now, applying for the Police and HM Customs instead. thinking about leaving the OTC after xmas as its cheesing me off that much. i can cope with being beasted etc, but thats the point we aren't. just lots of mucking about, not being told how to do things and being given conflicting instructions etc. don't see why i should waste my time with it.

Couldn't help but notice your comment on the chair racing. Will have to try that sometime. Don't know how the cops would handle it here. I've seen some pretty freaky things done at the state university where I graduated....cops didn't even bat an eye. Normal for Oregon happenins' I guess - what with the war protesters, half-naked bible thumpin' hippies yelling about the evils of college students and the drag parades thru mainstreet Portland, chair racing might not get too much attention. Anyone sent to the hospital though??!!
Nice to meet you...........Shel
