Hello everyone

Post by Ashee32 »

I signed up about a week ago but my activation email got lost so I resent it and here I am. My name is Ashleigh and I'm hoping to become a dog trainer/handler in the army. I need to sort a few things out regarding exam certificates, passport etc then I'll book my BARB test. Fairly confident about that as I find it relatively easy and I practise with the book and the online practise tests. I come from a long line of family who have served/currently serving in the army/armed forces. My dad currently serves, my grandad was a police officer and my great-whatever-grandad served in either the first or second world war so I hope I'll be able to keep the line going. As I want to become a dog trainer, I'm taking an animal management course in September because it is a really competitive role. I also volunteer with Asissi Animal Sanctuary so I have kennel experience. I can't think of anything else I can do to better my experience. Except maybe getting some experience at a boarding kennels. Anyway. I'm 20 and I come from Northern Ireland. Currently unemployed and hating it. Sooner the better I go to basic really.

Sounds like your putting some effort in. As you may or may not know, dog handler is a very sought after job, highh number of applicants, few spaces. I should know, i am one of the applicants!! I wouldnt count on getting in to basic any time soon though, i applied last september, did adsc few months ago and have been given a date for the pso board, or specialist interview. I am on the next one which is feb 2013. There is one going on now that started yesturday and finishes tomorrow. They only have 2 a year and they fill up very quickly. Make sure your fitness is the best when you at adsc, make sure your the best at everything you do, and you may stand a chance!

Good luck!
