The APFT is a three event physical performance test used to assess endurance. It is a simple way to measure a soldier's ability to move his body by using a few major muscle groups and cardiorespiratory system. The intent of the APFT in the Physical Fitness Program is to provide a baseline assessment regardless of MOS or duty. It must be properly administered to ensure a fair and accurate assessment. APFT administration procedures and event standards are clearly outlined in FM 21-20, Chapter 14. In addition, Change 1 dated October 1998 to FM 21-20, updated Chapter 14 IAW the "new" APFT standards. The regulation that governs Physical Fitness Testing Procedures is AR 350-41, Chapter 9.

The three events are the push up, the sit up, & two mile run in that order. Passing scores are dependent on age and sex.

USARMY, I notice from my observations of your soldiers on the streets of Baghdad and other places, you seem to rely on those Humvees for protection, where is your armoured personel carriers? These guys are firing RPG's at you followed by smallarms fire, and are killing your guys on a daily basis. It is time to change your attitudes and your tactics my friend.
Don't forget the British have been fighting this way for years both in Aden and Northern Ireland, yes we had some killed, but our training was far superior to what I can see your guys doing just milling about confused with the lack of leadership. If your Commanders can't see it and can't do something about it well it is time for you all to speak out, simply because the leaders are back in camp sitting on their fat a**es with fingers up bum and not getting killed. :agrue: :agrue: :agrue: :agrue: :agrue:

Well I guess we should just turn over command of the US Armed Forces to General 'Twenty One' since you know better than they do. And hey, you've seen clips of things on TV so you know EXACTLY what's going on over there.

Howdy TK421 welcome to the forum, bit of advice since your profile reads "soon to be in the United States Navy" and twenty one's profile reads "auld soldier" you might want to adjust your fire a little to avoid coming off as pompus.

Since your interest seem to lie things Naval, and I am a lowly ground pounder leg, I can assure you that no foot Soldier would ever turn down Armor even if it's a just for a ride, that's why the US Infantry is in the process of becoming fully mechanized. I suggest you read Black Hawk Down, it will give you an idea on why Armor is such a necessity in Urban combat.

PS, here's an idea you might want to warm up to, the British and the People of the Common Wealth Nations are our closest allies, with out them we would certainly sink.

Twenty-One, I imagine the reason why Humvees are being used is b/c the 101st is an Air Assualt unit, in other words their primary mode of transportation is Helo. So they'd have to borrow the assets. Or maybe Humvess are simply faster and cause less destruction to the cities infrastructure. Or maybe someone isn't thinking.

Hello USARMY. I'm certainly not trying to come across as "pompous", not trying to suck up to anybody either though. Personally I don't see our guys just "milling around looking confused" on TV. And if they are, I don't think myself or anybody here is aware of the context that that footage was taken in. But you're right, I haven't been there and done that so I should probably just drop it. And I've known several Brit's in my day, all great people. But if I disagree with a particular statement or two here, it doesn't mean I'm attacking the whole country(I'm definitely not here as an official representative of the State Department of anything).
I read Black Hawk down a few years ago, good book. I couldn't put it down. But from what I've seen on the news there's still a lot of armor in Iraq though.
I'm sure they're much better protected than Humvees, but can M113s and Bradleys be taken out by RPGs?

As far as taking on an M113 w/ an RPG, like all Armored vehicles it depends were you hit it and the trajectory of the munition.

heres a link to a web page about the M113 family, I think you will be able to see some of the advantages from the different varients.
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m113.htm

As far as a Bradley being taken out same thing all though it would be much harder .

Now for Humvees, they can be disable by small arms fire.

I had to laugh... USArmry has definately got the hang of this forum and knows our tone. He was quick to warn his fellow countryman that he needs to watch his comments and watch his step.
WE'RE NOT THAT BAD...ARE WE?!
MAYBE!!! The only reason i say this was that Twenty One came out all guns blazing straight away :2gunfire: - the topic was US fitness and he comes out jumping on the Yanks straight away, about a completley different matter... it's enough to scare anyone from across the pond...
It's justifiable at times... god, I knock 'em(!) and at times they really wind me up with some of their attitudes but we have established we are very diferent and the argument will go on and on and on... but comments like above... knocking them on a matter you see off the TV and for no real apparent reason or when its not related to the thread, makes US look big headed, ill informed, jealous and childish.
Sorry mate, had to say it....

Im off to see the Doc now... must be sick, standing up for the septic tanks!

I didn't think Twenty-Ones question was argumentive at all. In fact I find it completely valid, what is up with the Humvees?
