British coast at Seaton raided by German commando 1942

Post by cz_raf »

Hi all,

I found in one diary that in spring or early summer a German commando raided British coast near Seaton and possibly captured the British guards.

Any information about such an accident?
Was it true at all?

Many thanks in advance

Never heard of it, by 1942 the coast was well guarded and Germany was tied up in Afria, and Russia to worry about silly raids across the channel

Thanks a lot. For me it also looks strange, but I found this info in a letter of soldier who cam e to the place in summer 1942 to his fellow airman...

Any German raid on Seaton in 1942 must lie in the realms of fantasy, I'm afraid. During the early part of the war, the holiday camp there was used as an internment camp to hold European refugees - maybe the rumour came from there. The holiday camp's still in Seaton.

Best,
